leaky gut, diet

I'd first like to thank all who support this BB. It is great to have a resource when dealing with a chronic condition.
I have had a recurring peri-anal rash for a few years, that seemed to be further irritated by the consumption of alcohol. Through my own research I think this is a yeast related condition (the rash seems to fit the description of eczema). Otherwise my health has been generally good.
I have put myself on a diet excluding sugars, alcohol, wheat, dairy and generally try to limit intake of carbos. I eat a couple large servings of fresh, uncooked (usually organic) green vegetables everday. I have limited myself to one piece of fresh fruit/day. I do eat some bread made with 100% spelt.
I have been on this diet for about 3 months. During this time I took a German flora supplement, Symbio Flor, to reseed my intestine. I finished that about a month ago. I now am taking Shaklee's Opti-Flor. I regularly take a Shaklee multi-vit supplement and vita C.
My rash has diminished somewhat but still exists. I wonder if my diet is not restricted enough, or lacking in some respect. I have been experiencing flu-like symptoms the past week and wonder if I'm just run-down or should be encouraged that some die-off may be occuring. If anyone has any ideas or similar experience to relate I'd be very thankful.
I'd also like a more thorough explanation of LGS. The notes here are scant and I haven't found much more anywhere else. Perhaps you can send me to a URL?
Thanks! Tim
I would also like (not to be redundant)

Hi, Tim.

Calling the archives for LGS "scant" has just made my day! Here we have been so concerned because these archives were SO VOLUMINOUS that people couldn't find what they needed without spending many hours. I just spent about 20 minutes on the phone with my son, Bill (the admistrator for this 'site) trying to figure out this dilemma.

Perhaps you did not know where to look (see the link I have prepared below).

ANYHOW, you would save a lot of time by reading a copy of my book (from cover to cover) because it is much better organized than the thousands of notes in the archives.

See if you can get from the archives (or the articles on the FAQ page) what you need.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Walt

I read the book, and LGS was EXTREMELY scant in there, almost non-existent....save your money.

Barbara,

How can you say that? I'm reading the book right now...for the second time in 6 months... and it tells me everything I want to know and more. Sounds like you just sort of skimmed over it and what you were looking for didn't jump right out at you. Please read it carefully, every sentence is packed with information! BTW, LGS is on page 48,49,71 72, and 89.

If more people would CAREFULLY read Dr. Stoll's book, most of the questions on this Board would be unnecessary!

Sorry, I got a little upset there.

Rosemarie

Barbara,

Listen to Rosemarie. If you do not read the entire book, you will miss what you need to know. Why do you think I autographed it to you as I did? Those looking for a quick fix will keep their problem. You have the answers IF you will take the time to learn them.

REMEMBER, it will take a LOT more energy to DO what you learn than it will take to learn it. SO, if you are not willing to learn, it is just as well since you would NEVER do it anyhow.

Rosemarie, if youre so well informed on LGS from reading THE book, then tell me in plain english what is LGS, what are the symptoms, and what causes it, or will you lose your portion of royalties from the BOOK for pushing it so online????

I have to agree with Beverky. It truly does seem like a lot of answers to questions are not fully answered nor are they in the archives or book. Ive written here for quite awhile and I have read the book, and it does have a few good points, but I myself have never found out what LGS is by reading the book or coming here.

The BOOK - Tells you EVERYTHING.... yes it does

LGS is increased permeability of the intestinal lining. It allows undigested particles (peptides) to leak through the wall of the gut and into the bloodstream. This is not supposed to happen. Food is supposed to be broken down in the digestive system into its simplest components before going into the bloodstream and utilized by the body. Broccoli, for instance, is not supposed to be recognized as broccoli by the time it enters the blood. These undigested particles travel throughout the body and can cause A WIDE VARIETY of symptoms anywhere from head to toe. That's why there is not a set list of symptoms. It's DIFFERENT for everyone. The end result of this process (as well as the path to it) for each person depends on their genetic susceptibility. Wherever their weakest link is: the colon (IBS/IBD), the heart (MVP), the brain (depression), the skin (psoriasis), etc....

I learned this from this site and Dr. Stoll's book.

THANK YOU Peggy, I learned the same things here...

why is it that some people just don't get it?

I'd like to add to your description and say that LGS can be caused by chronic stress as described in the article on this website, because stress causes your blood to go to your muscles, and away from your intestinal tract. This results the intestinal tract being starved for nutrients and unable to continue functioning as it should.

I have posted numerous replies to people with the same questions. I HAVE LGS and candida. Peggy has described this perfectly.

What exactly don't you guys understand???? We can't do your reading for you, but if you will ask me direct questions, I will try to answer them directly.

Barbara, you will see the point of the book if you READ THE WHOLE THING - not just the pages on LGS. That may be part of the problem.

PLEASE - ask me anything and I will try to help you understand. I learned these same things on this board and through Dr. Stoll's book...

Whoever asked why some doctors don't know about LGS - it's because they never learned anything new after they left medical school. Reminds me of the joke: What do you call the guy who graduated last in medical school??? You call him "doctor".

I really want to help you guys, so please excuse my frustration!! :-)

Hi Trish,

I've spent many years active in dog training and it was always more difficult to teach the owners than the dogs! What was so clear to me was NOT clear to others. Sometimes it takes a lot of repetition before people "get it".

I've been with this bb for approx. 7 months now and I still need to remind myself on a regular basis of the overall picture. Please remember that many people who come here are starting at square one trying to understand a totally different way of thinking about wellness.

Personally, I want to thank you and all the others here who have been so patient in replying to the endless repetitive questions. Believe me, your efforts are not futile and at some point it does start to sink in.

Now I know how Dr. Stoll feels when he tells people "I needed that" You were so kind to post that!

I know I need to be more patient, and I hope all will forgive my frustration!

I've noticed your posts are always helpful too, and that you have learned a lot here!

...and you've also reminded me why I've surrounded myself with dogs! ;-)

be well, Kathy,

Dear Virginia & Barbara,

Listen to Peggy, trish and Kathy. Apparently some people are "getting it".

Those who CANNOT get it have to have some deep inner reason for not understanding. It surely cannot be logical or conscious.

Remember the story of Admiral Cook on his first visit to the south sea islands? The natives could not even see his ships although they were huge and anchored within a few hundred yards from the shore. Apparently they were SO foreign to their lifetime experience that they literally could not see them.

Since then this phenomenon has been demonstrated over and over in medical and psychological science. MY guess is that some people want SO badly to believe what their docs tell them that they have become incapable of learning for themselves. Of course, that is exactly what the medical monopoly has been aiming for for the past 100 years.

It is not easy but it IS true!

Some people are so sick that they cannot comprehend things the way they might do so when they are not so sick.

For example, several times I've been sick with some sort of flu, been so feverish that I couldn't figure out what to do about it, much less get up out of bed and go do it. In those cases, I especially need my RN wife to check me out, go get whatever I need, and give it to me.

Sometimes I think the same applies here. If a person is sick enough, the only way they can be helped is to share with them some simple short-term thing they can do (with minimal explanation), along with a few words to come back later and look into XYZ, the likely underlying cause of their sickness.

And some people will probably never be willing/able to understand/believe/try some of the things discussed so frequently here. Sad, but true. So for them, this place is just an Alice in Wonderland place, of no use to them.

Here are SOME (but not all) symptoms of LGS

I posted this list awhile back and am posting it here again for you, Barbara...

"arthritis, diabetes, rosacea, indigestion, acne, GERD, bruxism, insomnia, candidiasis, diahrrea, constipation, bad breath, sinus and ear problems, headaches, skin rashes, athletes foot, toenail fungus, and skin fungus, allergies to food or airborne stuff, insomnia, low resistance, bad absorption, bloating and gas, chronic fatigue, crohns, ibs and other intestinal "conditions", cravings for sugar (or
maybe cravings for anything)

That's as many as I can think of right now, but I'm quite sure that it's only a small part of a complete
list - if there is such a thing. That's why you can't find a list!

You're better off trying to understand the mechanism behind it than just looking for symptoms...it can
cause almost anything."

Are we getting warmer?? :-) Hope this helps you understand more, Barbara.

Barbara,

I had a good laugh at the royalty thing. Really funny!

All I'm going to tell you is that as you read ALL the chapters, you'll soon see that LGS is not cut and dry...that in fact it is involved in almost every process in your body. And that's why you don't get a clear answer. YOU'VE GOT TO SEE THE WHOLE PICTURE.

If you'll go to the pages I gave you you'll find your answers.

Good luck!
Rosemarie

As usual, RocketHealer Jim, you have hit the nail on the head.

It has to be the judgement of the clinician that helps determine what is best for that person at that time and until, in the judgement of the clinician, the person is ready for more.
