SED high--Dr. Stoll

Posted by Martha on November 23, 2003 at 18:44:20:

Dr. Stoll,

In the past year I have gained 30 lbs for no reason. I'm walking, riding a Ex-bike, using the mini tramp, and lifting some weights. I watch what I eat but I can't seem to stop gaining weight. My SED came back abnormal. It should had been between 0-20 and it was 40. I have allergies and my hands and feet hurt some, so I take glucosamine/chondroitin (500/400) sometimes once a day and sometimes twice. It does help but I can tell I'm somewhat inflammed.

The only new products I started this year was UDO Choice Oil Blend (Omega m3,6,9) L-Glutamine Powder, Garden of Life Super Green Food. I take other supplements but I've taken those for the past 3 years. Recently my heart started have palpations. I started extra mag, but it didn't stop it.

Doctor Stoll if you had a weight gain, heart Pal. and a high SED Rate what would you do. My doctor doesn't seem to take me serious. The other doctor I see if I'm out of town wants to always give me a steriod shot.

I'm worried, but nobody seems to see the danger. If you tell me to forget about it I will. All other test were normal. I'm in my early 40's and have asthma, thyroid problems (under active) and I have some heavy metal toxic.

Thanks,

Martha

Sounds like a number of the symptoms related to food
allergies probably and a leaky gut syndrome. An
elimination diet would probably help. If it were me, I
wouldn't do the steroid shot. Are they looking at the Free
T3 and Free T4 when they do your thyroid tests? Rye
grass extracts through Allergy Research Group in
California, are supposed to help with asthma, but I'd try
to clean up your system first, and go from there. I'm
prejudiced, but I would find someone who is familiar
with the Institute for Functional Medicine protocols.
www.functionalmedicine.org .The heavy metal toxicity
is, of course, dragging down your immune system, as
well. Find someone who can work with this effectively,
as well. The Functional medicine people could do that.

Hi, Martha.

If I were your doc, I would be concerned. In my opinion, those who are not are too lazy to learn how to deal with more than routine things.

The chances are that this all stems from LGS which is preventing you from absorbing the more difficult things from your diet: micronutrients. Calories are the very easiest things to absorb so they are getting through fine!

Your sed rate comes from your leaking peptides and stimulating your immune system. ALL of your symptoms can be explained on this basis (LGS).

First, stop the omega 3-6-9 and start just the omega 3s (2000 milligrams twice a day). Next start becoming an expert in LGS and get started doing SR.

Tell me more about exactly what you are doing with your exercise.

Walt

I had a sed rate at 40 a few years ago. My father had just died and I had a 1 year old. I was stressed and taxed. They never found out anything, so I just forgot about it. It's normal now. It comes from inflammation somewhere. I know at the time my sinuses were bothering me also, this is kind of where I hung my hat since I didn't get any answers.

Thanks Dr. Stoll, Jennifer and Cezanne for your replies.

My exercise varies depending how cold it is outside. If it's cold it will create an asthma attack. I walk anywhere from 1 to 3 miles, 3 to 4 times a week. If I stay indoors to exercises I will ride my ex. bike 20 minutes, 1 to 2 times a day.

I jump on the mini tramp. everyday, but only for 5 minutes or so. I wheeze heavy when I do this, so I jump some, rest and then jump more.

I used to lift weights at the gym, but do to a arm injury, I'm on light weights only. No more than 5 to 10 lbs, until I heal. I also do stretches everyday to help me stay moveable. I really do get stiff, even with the stretches.

Thats about all. Do you know anymore that I need to do? I will as well change my oils. Where do you get your Omega 3's from, What brand is best?

Thanks for hearing my plead for help. May God Bless You.

Hi, Martha,

In addition to working on your LGS, you might want to read Richard Firshein's book Reversing Asthma. I found it helpful.

Good luck,

Martha

Thanks, Martha.

In my opinion, you need a better doc. See the holistic practitioners archives for how to find one. In the meantime construct the history suggested in the Health Coaching Protocol and be collecting all of your medical records to have in your hand when you finally go. You will not be sorry.

You have your exercise program more than well in hand. A consistant SR program is the next thing for you to become an expert in.

Walt
