Infant Eczema -- Caused by Food/Other Allergy?

Posted by Concerned Father on January 19, 2000 at 19:11:46:

Dr. Stoll,

I am new to this site/BB, so please forgive me... ...Have scoured your site (including BB posts "in limbo") for information of treatment of infant eczema. Found most under LGS archive.

This is our first child, so my wife is extremely protective and sensitive to any perceived health issues. Our daughter is 6-weeks old. After birth, she developed mild cases of what appeared to be baby acne. They came and went every 1-2 days.

Now, she has a red, bumpy rash which our pediatrician immmediately diagnosed as eczema. Rash started on her outer cheeks, but has spread to virtually all of her body (especially neck and face) over the past 4 days. We are giving water-only baths 2x per week, lubricating with Aquaphor (soon to be Eucerin after our samples run out) 4x per day, dressing in 100% cotton clothing, and not allowing scratching/rubbing.

My wife is breastfeeding, and not eating anything unusual, such as seafood or nuts; limited dairy and wheat; few eggs; some tofu. My wife and I are both Asian, and understand there is a higher incidence of lactose-intolerance among Asians. Also, we have a cat. Family history: father allergic to cats at young age - subsequently outgrew; paternal grandfather has minor eczema on hands only; maternal uncle had asthma and has periodic eczema.

Questions: Does this sound like a food or other allergy to you? Cat? Dust? Is it LGS at such a young age? Why would this rash only develop after 5 weeks? What treatment would you suggest? Elimination diet for Mom? Essential oils for either? Keep in mind that she is only 6 weeks old and eating only breastmilk. Would like to avoid steroid creams, if at all possible.

Thank you in advance for you suggestions! Would appreciate responses from anyone with similar experience.

Hi, Concerned Father.

This child has candida-related syndrome (C-RS).

Congratulations on finding the connection with LGS. ANYONE must have LGS on order to get C-RS.

Use the search engine, homepage and archives about candida and then, read one of Dr Crook's, Dr Sherry Roger's, Dr Rapp's books about candida in children.

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

When this clears up (and it will) please share your experiences with the BB so others in this fix will see that it is not necessary.

Walt
