flagyl for H pylori

my doctor wants to prescribe flagyl for H pylori, but I cannot understand why. I am allergic to most antibotics. My doctor claims that flagyl is used to treat H pylori, but I cannot find anything about that being a recommended treatment.

You might think in the future to ask the Dr. or your pharmacist to see the package insert for the medicine you contemplate taking. This should be available prior to actually purchasing the medicine.

See the link below for general Flagyl info.

For even more info, see: http://www.searlehealthnet.com/pi/flagyl.html

Hope this helps!

Hi, Pat.

Listen to RocketHealer Jim (Thanks, RHJ!).

I have not heard of treating H. Pylori with Flagyl either but I have never used antibiotics for this condition since it was discovered AFTER my forced retirement.

However, by far the most effective way to get rid of H. Pylori is by dealing with the LGS that caused the susceptibility. THEN, any further treatment would not have to be so harsh or last so long for an even better cure rate. The recurrence rate will be non-existant if the LGS is no longer present.

My niece was just diagnosed with H. Pylori and the doctor said she would have to do some research to see what to prescribe for her. She ended up prescibing Tetracyclin and pepto bismol. When my sister was diagnosed with H. Pylori she was given atleast 2 antibotics. My niece called the pharmacist to ask what is usually prescribed for H. Pylori and she said Biaxin, amoxicillin and omeprazole. When may niece called the doctor back to tell her what the pharmacist said, the doctor said the pharmacist didn't know what she was talking about. My niece can not take flagyl, so I hope that the tetracyclin works for her.

Hi, Gail99,

Sounds like the "Peter Principle" has caught up with that doc. The pharmacist is right and the omniscient doc has finally exposed his modus operandi. He was likely one of those who pooh-poohed the discovery of H.Pylori and has not bothered to learn how to treat it.

Wouldn't you think that the pharmacist who fills all these prescriptions would know what docs order for this?

Anyhow, I hope she realizes that LGS is what allows the person to become infected with H. Pylori. We ALL have H. Pylori in our guts all the time. Why do we not all have it as an infestation???

Let us say that whatever treatment she gets is effective. What is going to keep her from getting it again?

Walt

Dr. Stoll, my niece's doctor ended up telling her that she could no longer see her since she had questioned her presciption for H. Phylori. So my niece is with a different doctor and one that listens to my niece. I hope others get the help they need for this problem because it really makes you sick.
