Candida

Posted by Pauline Mailler on March 26, 2000 at 16:47:59:

Hello Dr. Stoll:

I came upon your web site during my research on undecenoic
acid for a candida related problem (yes I am one of the
ones who believe that this problem exists and have for
the last 10 years).

I am so impressed when I see doctors such as yourself
and some doctors in my home town, who like yourself
are blazing a trail for your patients and not for the
medical establishment who seems to have lost sight of the
real meaning of being a doctor.

When I first went to my gp for my numerous symptoms (ie., rapid heart beat, itchiness, mental fog, muscle fatigue <>, flaky nails, leukoplakia, hives, nasal drip, periodic tingling in arms, hands and legs, insomnia, many food sensitivies, etc.) she of course had a series of tests done, but all came back in the normal range. When I persisted in explaining that I suffered from many "strange" symptoms that seemed to be similar to those described under the "yeast syndrome" theory, she began to look at me as though I were from outer space. I stated that if I did not eat I was fine; she told me the theory didn't make any sense to her.

I then commented to her that when Alexander Graham Bell discovered the telephone, everyone thought HE too was crazy and that no one would ever use it--so I was willing to pursue the theory in the interim because she was not doing anything to help me.

Also, truthfully, I told her I had better things to do with my time than annoy doctors with non-existent symptoms.
Since I had not been off work on "sick leave" for the previous 10 years -- I didn't fit the pattern of a hypochondriac, so I proceeded to try to educate myself and found some doctors pursuing this theory. I read many books including Dr. Crook's and others and the theory made sense to me because I HAD THE SYMPTOMS.

I called it a disease of the 90's and we out here were at the mercy of the system and it was not helping us. After I followed various treatments for candida myself, while I must admit it is not cured, it is certainly under control and I can lead a more normal lifestyle. I have vastly improved my diet and am trying to follow the developments on this theory and have every expectation that because of people such as yourself, a complete cure will be found.

Subsequently, someone else in my family came down with similar symptoms to mine only hers were far worse in that they included numerous other environmental sensitivities as well as the food ones--she too has found relief from the "candida" diet & treatments.

--ALL THIS TO SAY THAT I TRULY ADMIRE YOUR COURAGE TO STAND UP TO THE ESTABLISHMENT.

Once again, I cannot thank you enough for what you have done and are doing on behalf of people such as myself and many others.

Your are a true hero of our modern times,

:-))

Thanks, Pauline!

I needed that.

When I went into medicine, I surely never thought that MY profession would be the major cause of most of the chronic suffering in this country AND that it was for power and monetary reasons. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE!!!
