Hi Shirley,

It's not clear what your question is. Intestinal bacterial flora is just the different "stuff" that lives in your intestines. Everyone is SUPPOSED to have intestinal bacterial flora. It helps us stay healthy. Acidophilus and Bifidus are two examples of BENEFICIAL bacterias that live in our intestines.

Problems occur when the balance of the bacterial and/or fungal stuff gets out of whack, or when a detrimental bacteria takes up residence.

An example is, if you kill off too much of your bacterial flora with antibiotics, you will get a yeast overgrowth, since the yeast (which also naturally occurs in your gut) is not affected by antibiotics. SO, the yeast takes over where the bacteria were killed off. That's called a Candidiasis, or a Candida infection.

Does this help? Are you suffering from symptoms of some sort, or just looking to learn about this? If you need more info, perhaps you can be a bit more specific and we'll see if we can help.

be well,
trish
