Big Relaspe??????

Carroll on August 05, 2000 at 08:41:27:

Hi Dr. Stoll,
Yesteray, I had the biggest disappointment of my life.

First of all, I got up early (4am) with cramping and urency to use bathroom. This ended up being diarrhea, BLOOD and Mucus for several hours! I have had IBS now for 18 mos but thought that I had it under control.(no diarrhea for 3 months)...never had the blood and mucus until yesterday! I also went for GI consult w/ referral from Free Clinic the day before, he wants to do colonscopy to make sure but then the Clinic will not pay for this test! Now what do I do? I also have the ovarian cyst problem which we spoke about....saw my old GYN as well (she didn't charge me anything..God Bless her) and she did full exam and ran CA-125 test but said, the cyst didn't feel solid. Gave me Mircette (desogestrel/ethinyl estradiol and ethinyl estradiol) to take for 30 days. Then wants me to have another pelvic scan. I am so upset over the turn of events, I have been following SCD Diet, SR and excercise and to have this change in events with the Blood and mucus, really has me concerned. Spoke with GI.....his only comment, the Clinic will not pay for your test and you have had this problem and didn't realize it for some time. (Use hydrocortisone Acetate 25mg suppositories, one in am and one in pm for 10 days. He called in the prescription. I picked it up but sure didn't want to go this route! He also said to use Immodium for the diarrhea if it reappeared. He doesn't follow any diets. He only advises his patients to stay away from whatever irritates them!) I am trying to get $1500-$2500 together to have colonscopy test but because the clinic said no, GI removed me from schedule which was for Sept. 4th. If worse comes to worse, I will put the cost onto a Visa card but this just adds to my stress load!

In your book, you said, UC is curable.....and I am going to continue to follow all but I am really feeling down over all of this today. My stress load is still very heavy but I sincerely thought that I was handling things much better with even improvements!

I would appreciate your thoughts here on all of this!

Carroll,

How long have you been doing the SR? Are you doing the wellness at the same time?

ALL healing processes are gradual with remissions and exacerbations. It is just that the remissions tend to be further apart and the exacerbations less severe till it is over. If you keep a diary you will see this. Besides, until you have doing the SR correctly for about 6 months, your exacerbations can still be bad.

Remember, that the natural progression of this condition is expecting each exacerbation to be MORE severe.

If I knew when you were successful in establishing effective SR, twice a day, I would know more how to respond to you. Right now, conventional approaches need to be used to get you through this episode.

Talk at me!

Dear Dr. Stoll,
I have been doing SR since Jan of this year but at that time I was extremely sick in a lot of ways, both physically and emotionally. I would venture to say, that I didn't start reaching the proper levels with SR until maybe June, but I continue each day. I am still under hugh amounts of stress, but emotionally and financially but thought I had been getting better at this.

My Diet, is SCD by Elaine Gottschall, B.A, M.S.c. I follow her regiment, I do SR 2 x day..(although some day the second time is at bedtime, unfortunately) I walk a mile every day, sometimes 2 miles. I am trying so hard to get the money together for colonscopy and may at this point just put it on my Charge card. I started Hydrocortisone Acetate 25 mg suppositories on Friday. 2 x day. The constant blood and mucus stopped but his am, bowel was light in color with some blood. I don't want to go this route of medications but if I need them for short period of time, I will do so.

I am better in many areas but to have this get worse is really upsetting me! But, I can see the relationship of body/mind. As this past week, has been a real up and downer for my emotions. I found the book "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer just yesterday, will start reading today.

I sincerely, do not want to this to get out of hand and to have had this happen, is truly scaring me.

I appreciate your feedback.

Dr. Stoll,
The times that I find that I can't settle down, especially at the moment, I have "Brain Sync" tapes that I will listen to and this most always get me into a relaxed state and I am not aware of the passing thoughts or the time involved.

If I should be approaching this differently, please let me know.

I may be moving in with family for a while, to take the financial stress off of me but I am having a hard time with this decision, as I have never had to ask for such help in my life.

Thanks,
Carroll

Hi Trish,

It is a whole food diet. "Specific Carbohydrates Diet" is what SCD stands for. There are no refine sugars, grains, flours, etc allowed. You can have protein, veggies, fruits, almond flour baked goods, lots of homemade yogurt and some hard cheeses, but no dairy, ie., milk, ice creams, etc,. No sodas or any refined or processed foods.

This diet put an end to my chronic diarrhea. The name of the book is: "Breaking the Vicious Cycle", diet for Crohn's disease, Ulcerative colitis, diverticulitis, celia disease and chronic diarrhea.

Hi Carroll,

Brain Sync tapes are one valid way to do SR. If it works for you, there is NOTHING wrong with that. It is important to do this twice a day, for 20 minutes each session. To find out if you are reaching alpha or theta, you will need a biofeedback session or a GSR.

Walt, have you read this book? "Specific Carbohydrates Diet" It sounds similar to Beth's! (NMI)

Gold-Plated Dual Banana Plugs - for the person with a DVM who wants to do GSR in STYLE (and never fear corrosion, or a poor skin connection)!

KMD:

Could not agree with you more, but remember that a DVM can be used as a GSR in a pinch, or even on a regular basis.

I recently dug around in the 'ole collection of my Dads' left-over electronic parts which I inherited and found a GRC Dual Banana Plug (NO, NOT GOLD-PLATED!) which I believe is just the trick for using a DVM (Digital VoltMeter - actually you need an Ohm-meter, Details! Details!). Anyway, what I did was took a small screwdriver and loosened up the two screws in this banana plug and stuck the test prods in where wires would ordinarily go. Then tightened the screws. The result is something that you can conveniently hold between two fingers of one hand to use your DVM for GSR measurements. And if you buy the gold-plated one from Radio Shack, you never have to worry about poor connections or corrosion. It will outlast you and all your grandchildren, and be shiny, too boot!

Hope this helps!

Hi KMD,

Unfortunately, I can not afford a biofeedback session at the moment. I would like very much to go for this because today, I am wondering if all the additional stress this past week set things off in the wrong direction. The GSR machines are too expensive at the moment but I will try to obtain one in the future. I will continue to listen to my tapes. Someday, I can tell that I am getting there and other days, I have to wonder! But, onward and upward, I am determined to conquer all of this!

Thanks for your support!

Jim,

Call me non-mechancial or whatever but I am lost here with the explaination of this. In lay terms, how would I go about setting this up? I need a Ohm meter?? Can I get it at Radio Shack as well? Then I buy the Gold Plated Dual Banana Plug and procede as you instructed? Sorry, for the questions but this is out of my league.....LOL

Thanks for your response!

Carroll:

Back around July 12 we had several threads here about GSR machines, how to use a digital ohm-meter as an inexpensive GSR (linked below), etc. So look down the page, or search on GSR (Ctrl F for find, type in GSR and click on search)

My dual banana plugs post was to share an idea for replacing manually holding each of the two test prods (red and black) one in each hand (after wetting your fingers for better electrical conductivity) and then possibly running out of ohms range on your DVM if it has a 3999 megohm max range. On mine, as I get relaxed and my body resistance increases, I run out of range on my inexpensive meter. Better (More Expensive!) DVMs have much higher ranges, so they don't have this problem.

Anyway the idea of the banana plug is to put it onto the ends of the test leads so you have something easy/convenient to hold onto with just one hand with a significant amount of contact area with your skin. And Gold is even better for conductivity, and for no problemo with corrosion from the wetness and body salts and acids.

Hope this helps!

Hi, Carroll.

How do you know that your SR is NOW getting you to the correct level? It is sort of a shame that you wasted all those months learning how to do it (even if you finally DO have it right).

The predicted results for SR are on the basis that the person has checked out their technique with biofeedback and done it at least twice a day (the one before bed does not count) for 6 months.

Let us know how you do. I am not the least bit surprised at your current relapse given what you have told us here.

This note is intended to encourage you to do this right and not to be upset at relapses in the meantime. This has taken you a lifetime to break down.

Hi Dr. Stoll,
After reading some of the Book, "Mind Healer.....", over the week-end, I gave great thought as to how all of this has ended up in my lap and that it is up to me to conquer this and believe that I will.

Yesterday, I did two sessions, one first thing in the am before breakfast and one around 6 pm after taking a walk and then a long soak in a bath w/ baking soda. I could tell a big difference in my body and mental state.

I also will try out Jim's contraption to help me as I get some extra money flowing.

I do not take offense to good direction from you. I appreciate your sincere and honest approach with me. Looking back on the disease list of my own.....this was something coming to me since childhood. Much to my surprise, all that I have had has been related to this body held stress for years. Now it is up to me!

Thanks for your input!!

...Carroll. SR is not a perfect science because we, humans, are not perfect. Some days, we hit it right and have a great SR, and other days our minds chatter and wander. You can try to get the strongest tapes you can find, and that helps, but sometimes your mind will still be stubborn. I believe if you listen to the binaural brainwave tapes, and feel yourself relaxing, chances are high that you are in an alpha state. If you get tapes that produce stronger brainwaves like theta and delta, then you will at least get to the alpha state, even if you don't acheive theta and delta. Even when I go into never-never-land, I can still tell that I haven't been sleeping. Usually my body just pops me out of it at a certain point, and I feel pretty wide awake. After a while, you will be able to tell from your own body whether you have "arrived" or not, and you will also be able to forgive your body on the days when it won't behave!

hang in there,

Hi Carroll,

You're welcome. I started out using "brain sync" "deep meditation" which I still think is good. But now I use "centerpointe" tapes which are excellent, I'm completely hooked, and yet they're expensive. They usually put me out, and they do some other things as well. Here is the link for them: www.centerpointe.com

In the morning I use centerpointe -- it's two tapes, each 1/2 hour, and in the evening I use Dr. Jeffrey Thompson's "inner dance". It's lighter, but uses some good acoustics.

I'm glad to have helped you and hope that you will continue to stick with it, because that's the most important thing. Over time I've see a real difference, and I do notice it's much better if you can do it twice daily. Once in a while I miss the second SR, and I really feel it!
