Chronic, Severe Diarrhea!!!!!!!!!! HELP!!

Posted by Laura on February 28, 2001 at 11:31:47:

I am honestly at my wit's end! I keep having flare up's of severe diarrhea that sometimes lasts for two weeks and this flare up seems to be lasting longer!!!!!! I will even have diarrhea when I do not eat a thing for a day or two! How is this possible? I have had a colonoscopy and small bowel tests that have proved okay. What in the world could this be and how can I stop this diarrhea? The other weird thing is that I feel like there are muscles in the abdominal area that are moving around? Like they are triggger points that are always irritated? Can you have muscles in the stomach area and back area that can tighten as mine do, and created problems like diarrhea and/or at least be a part of the problem? I have noticed that my abdominal muscles and back muscles always feels stiff and sometimes feel as if they are actively moving around... does anyone know what I mean? Please help me... I am depressed about all of this. I do not know where to turn......

Laura,
I'm just coming out of a 1&1/2 year stint of severe, chronic, watery diarrhea. There's hope. I don't want to tempt fate, but I believe I beat it from doing a combination of many different things. The first thing you may want to try is quite simple--take some Caltrate Plus supplements(purple & white box). This was part of my healing, and that alone has helped countless people, believe it or not. See this thread at IBSselfhelp:
http://www.ibsgroup.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/011418.html

If you do an additional search at this site(entering "caltrate"), you'll come up with over 800 hits. If you do try the Caltrate for at least 3 weeks and see no changes for the better-feel free to email me. Everyone is biochemically unique, but maybe I can offer you you some other things to try.

Oh-also try cutting out wheat, corn, chocolate and don't more than 5 tsp's sugar/honey per day. If you're able, don't eat any sugar.

I know how incredibly horrible what you're going through can be. My best wishes for you,
Marie

Definitely eliminate wheat esp (actually all grains!) and sugar (refined foods!!!!)
That means pasta, bread, desserts....... read labels. You'd be surprised. Get the Nourishing Traditions book by Sally Fallon and it'll explain ALOT.
I had IBS for 15 years... not pleasant. I was blessed when I made the decision to give up on MDs and specialists.. A good medical intuitive ( I know a GREAT one) and a competent kenesiologist (?spelling?). We in Vermont have the BEST.
I have been IBS free for 2 years. Good luck.

Are you chewing gum with xorbitol, I think that is the ingredient that creates the problem. Or eating something with that ingredient?

Go to a CVS if you have one near you (the pharmacy) and pick up a product called CULTURELLE. It contains a strain of probiotics that treats virutally all types of diarrhea. This is not a cure all but may help get symptoms quelched for a while.

Rich

I don't know what a CVS is and can't find Culturelle so far (nmi)

so then you are not talking about the pharmacies at KMart, Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Osco, etc, right? Because these are the sorts of places I have looked so far. You mean that the pharmacy NAME is CVS Pharmacy, so like the company name is CVS, is that right?

Here in North Georgia our CVS pharmacies were previously Revco pharmacies. So it's a chain. May I suggest the yellow pages?

Hi, Laura.

LGS! LGS! LGS! At this point your problem is still functional. Eventually it will become structural and any idiot will be able to make the diagnosis--BGECAUSE they will be able to SEE it. Allopathy is stuck in that mode (19th century thinking).

Since all of the things that resolve LGS can only enhance your total health, what do you have to lose by trying? A few things that MIGHT give you quick, and temporary, results are: 1. TOTAL elimination of wheat and dairy for a couple of weeks therapeutic trial. AND 2. At least 6 billion organisms/dose of acidophilus, acid bifidus, "soil based organisms" or multiple probiotics--4 times a day (careful to get a live product in the freezer of your healthfood store (Klair or Metagenics are good ones).

See the colon problems archive and the LGS archives.

Let us know what you learn.

To MY knowledge, SR is the only thing that will resolve this permanently in the long run.

As you get well, please share your experiences with the BB.

Walt

Walt... can you further explain the muscles in my abdominal and back that feel like they are moving around? Is this a leaky gut reaction too? Or like a bracing thing? It almost feels as if my abdominal area has expanded a bit due to these tight muscles that are making themselves known!!! If I touch my stomach my muscles feel very tight... is this also the effect of leaky gut? Your expert advice would be aprreciated. Thanks. I will keep in touch.

Hi, Laura.

MY guess is that the muscles you "feel moving around" are the smooth muscles of your gut.

Of course, since bracing is the most common cause of LGS, your abdominal muscles would be involved. However, it is unusual for you to sense THEM "moving around".

Hope this helps.

Walt
