E. coli

Posted by Jim on April 11, 2001 at 10:26:12:

A recent test through Great Smokies showed that the only abnormality in my intestines is that I have no E. coli. I have UC and am wondering if and how much the lack of E. coli is contributing to my condition. How does one re-establish E. coli?

Hi, Jim.

Likely you could help this by large doses of probiotics but, in the end, you are going to have to deal with the causes of LGS which would HAVE to be present before any UC could happen. See the archives.

The most innovative approach has been reported in the NEJM and consists of giving enemas of fecal material, taken from normals, to those with UC. If you are interested I can point you to the research.

The REAL problem is WHY the UC patient lost their normal germs to start with and THAT is from the existance of the LGS.

Thank you so much for your reply. What a relief to have found this site and to have people like you after having dealt with the medical establishment for 6+ years. Please point me to the NEJM research. In the meantime, I have just started treatment to address the LGS.

Thanks again.

Hi, Jim.

Whew! I reviewed 3 years of articles and finally found the article you have requested.

It is: Bennet JD, Brinkman M. Treatment of ulcerative colitis with implantation of normal colonic flora. Lancet. 1989;I:164.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
