Guillian Barre Syndrome and Celiac Disease/connection?

My 24 year old son is presently in the hospital with a severe case of rapid onset Guillian Barre Syndrome after having the flu. Many of his symptoms I have experienced myself (curiously these came on after a bad bout of flu). I have multiple neurological problems which result if I do not maintain a gluten and casein free diet: numbness in the etremities, restless leg syndrome, a "drunken gait", allover body spasms within hours of ingesting gluten, an internal vibration especially upon waking, tremors in the hands off and on, incoordination, imbalance with the eyes shut, occassional double vision, blurred vision, tongue numbness, difficulty in swallowing... As Celiac Disease is genetic (there is a susceptibility locus located on gene 6) and my son has had numerous gastro-intestinal problems in the past, I believe he has Celiac Disease as well. Can you put me in the right direction? I am naturally a fanatical researcher and a believer in nutrition/natural remedies. Unfortunately I can find almost no information about alternative medicine and Guillian Barre. Current medical research has rejected the theory that Guillian Barre is viral. Rather it is a syndrome triggered by a compromised immune system after having experienced one of several virus and sometimes the trigger remains totally unknown.
I feel like I'm trying to tread water in a rapid river. I guess what I want is information on how others have come out of this with the least amount of long term damage. I want to know how to speed his recovery process. I have practically worn myself out fighting with these stupid doctors about corn syrup based tube fed formulas and his right to have a say in his own nutrition. I would welcome responses from anyone with information about this disease OTHER THAN THE CONVENTIONAL INFO which I have already scrutinized Via the GBS Foundation and the Doctors treating him.
I thank you. Michele

Hi, Michelle.

As you know, conventional support is needed to survive this. Of course, all the support is doing is keeping him alive until his bodymind heals whatever this crisis is.

I have not seen any research about GBS and LGS but, with what IS being discovered I expect this connection to become blindingly obvious within a few years.

Remember that the rarer a condition is the less money is put directly into researching that condition--the best use of the available money for the most people syndrome.

Since the conventional support is doing nothing about the causes to which you both are genetically susceptible, you both need to learn what we have been discussing on this 'site for years.

Let us know what you learn and if you have any more questions please post.

Namaste`

Walt
