There is no BEST way to handle candida because everybody has different imbalances that lead to candida. However, there are some basic guidelines that one can follow to ensure the most comprehensive program possible.

First off, candida needs to be attacked from several angles. Here they are:

1) Kill the candida DIRECTLY with anti-fungals
a. Rotate the anti-fungals or the yeast will adapt
2) Starve candida through dietary restriction of sugar. Do
not take anti-oxidants while taking antifungals. They
stop the antifungals from working.
3) Facilitate the removal of dead yeast by eating a diet
high in fiber, and by taking a fiber supplement daily
4) Take plant enzymes before meals in order to break your
food down better and lessen the chance of candida
fermenting your partially-digested foods, especially
carbohyrates
5) Bromelain and Cellulase enzymes, taken between meals,
digests candida's protective coating making it
vulnerable to attack by the anti-fungals

Those are the basic candida-elimination techniques. However, you need to know that if parasites are also present, they could be keeping candida alive. This is why I recommend having a Comprehensive Stool Analysis and Comprehensive Parasitology done. Great Smokies Labs specializes in both. It takes out the guess-work and you can taylor a specific treatment for yourself. But, if you choose not to have testing, you will have to go by symptoms in order to judge your progress. If you are not getting better using the above recommendations, you may have parasites, some other fungus or bacteria, or food sensitivites, or Leaky Gut that has to be dealt with. Chances are, you will have one or more of these along with the candida.

Eliminating food sensitivies really helps get candida under control because it takes the stress off your immune system. I believe Immuno Labs's ELISA IgG food allergy testing is the best testing for food allergies available. It has a 95% reliability rate and has been subjected to clinical testing. It is just as accurate if not more than the elimination diet because it takes out most of the human error that goes with the elimination diet. If you choose this option, rotate your non-sensitive foods so you don't become allergic to those. You will also get a wider variety of nutrients. The more foods allergies you have, the more likely you have LGS.

I would do two basic things for the leaky gut. With these 2 ideas, not much else is necessary once the above obstacles are out of the way:

1) SR
2) Permavite powder

SR you most likely know about. Permavite conains L-gluamine, the single most important nutrient for LGS. It contains Cellulose, an insoluble fiber that decreases permeabiltiy. It contains N-acetyl-glucosamine and Epithelial growth factor which encourages the growth of the mucosal lining. It contains Slippery Elm and MSM which soothes irritation and allows the LGS to heal (food allergies contribute to irritation. See why you need to removes these?), and it contains Stevia to sweeten slightly. This is the best LGS formula out there. With other factors out of the way, it shouldn't take you more than 2-3 months to heal the LGS. Sooner if you practice SR faithfully twice a day.

I believe there are other factors that contribute to candida. One if consuming a diet innappropriate for your metabolism. Look in the archives for info on Metabolic typing.

Heavy metals can keep candida thriving. Heavy metal testing is essential.

Hormonal imbalances and glandular disturbances will also grow candida out of control. Saliva hormone testing, Adrenal Stress index, and Growth hormone evaluation is encouraged.

Nutrient deficiencies are the result of candida/LGS. Once the gut heals, these take care of themselves often. But sometimes, supplementation is needed. Again, testing is the best means of discovering them but if you cannot aford it, at least take a complete multi-vitamin (no iron for men) that contains ample A,C,E,C,B complex, D, full spectrum minerals, plant enzymes, and necessary co-factors for absorption.

I didn't cover the topic of re-populating the intestines with probiotics but you are still a way's away from doing that. Not even soil-organisms would help you right now because antifungals kill soil-organisms and resident probiotics. Get rid of the candida first. Then come back for more help. Hope this helps you.

Which product????

Thanks for reply to earlier post. Had all the test done
from GSL. No Candida or Parasites. [don't know how]
Understand parasites can be difficult to detect. Thought
Soil-Based Org. was suppose to be very aggressive against
all??? To make long story short, healthy/normal one day,
digestion/ELIMINATION shut down the next. Know i got a "bug"
that no one has been able to find. That was 20+ yrs ago,
long & hard road. Not knowing any better, traditional Dr's
pumped me full of anti-botics. Some very strong. Only
made matters worse. Currently take HCL, MAG. Glycinate,
some form of herbal lax. Still searching for root of problem. System seems to be very sensitive. Have to be careful of what supplements taken. Enzymes are out, they are grown on a mold, bad reaction. [anything with/from a mold seems to be really bad] Thanks for your time and any thoughts/ideas.

Hi Kimberly - The post by "Helping You" had some very good info for you to follow - What worked for me was Colon Cleansing (fiberblend), Tonic Supreme (1 teaspoon 5 times each day - in water or juice) and Muscle Testing everything that you put in your mouth - to be sure that your not allergic and causing yourself more TOXIC problems. If you have not taken any Diflucan - I'd suggest that you take only one pill - for only 7 days - No more - it's hard on the Liver. The Tonic Supreme will take care of any Parasites and will also get your Candida under control - remember all we can do is get the Candida "Under Control" not killed out completely. Keep away from any kind of sugar and if your a borderline diabetic - you need to take chromium Picolinte 200 mg. Have a great Monday my friend!

I think the best way to find out what is going on is to complete MORE testing. In the post just above, I mentioned all the testing one should do with these type of problems. For you, I would also do intestinal permeability, Food allergy, Loomis 24 hour urinalysis, liver detoxification, and nutrient deficiency profile.

Definitely sound like you were hit with a bug. You could have already gotten rid of it. Now you just have to clean up the mess it left. have you been tested for Lymme?

I don't know if I have candida problems but I do eat a lot of sugar. I do on occassion have intestinal problems. All this info you give out is so totally confusing to me. Where do you get plant enzyemes? Are they called that? Is there another name it goes by? Is it in pill form and do you get it at a health food store? You say a high fiber diet is good. Do you mean whole wheat bread, vegatables, fruit, breads. What about natural sugar in fruit is that bad. I would like to start with simple things first.
