Candida (Help)

Posted by Yogurtds on July 21, 2001 at 07:03:24:

Help! I am in the beginning phase of discovering about Candida. It appears I am a classic case. After 5 rounds of antibiotics to fight sinus infections during my second pregnancy (child 6 months now), years of birth control, I could go on and on; however, after posting a message to the board regarding sugar cravings someone suggested I look into Candida and it began my search. Recently, I have had two vaginal yeast infections. The doctor suggested Monistat and that did not work so she gave me a one time pill to take and that was two days ago and I still have episodes of itching. I began following the Candida Diet yesterday; however, what can I do for this intense itching NOW! How long does to take before the change in diet will effect the vaginal yeast infection?

HI,
Your off to a great start. But, you need to add anti-fungals to help kill off the Candida. Here are just a few.
Capryl, garlic, olive leaf. There are more. You need to rotate them so the Candida doesnt grow tolerant to what you are using. CHeck the archives on Candida and you get lots of helpful information on what others have done for it too.
It takes a good 6 months to get rid of candida......as for the yeast infection, I'm not sure about.....I know others will post to help you.

Just simply going on an anti-candida diet will not resolve the issue. Especially if it has set in for a while. For the itching and vaginal yeast infections, try kolorex cream. It works very well. Search for it on the web.

The yeast is most likely coming from your intestinal tract. It migrates from there to the vagina in chronic cases. You would need to begin anti-fungal treatment in addition to the diet in order to overcome this. Since you don't know EXACTLY what bugs you have, try a few multi-purpose antifungal herbs. take them in rotation. Do not take all at once. So, use one herb for 4 days, then switch to another herb for 4 days, then switch to another herb for 4 days and just keep doing this with about 4 different herbs. Garlic, Grapefruit seed extract, Olive leaf extract, berberine complex, caprylic acid, Formula SF722 are a bunch you could use. The rotation works well because just when the yeast start getting used to your treatment, you switch medicines and they get thrown off and can't adapt. Yeast will adapt to ANY situation. They can even adapt to life with no sugar. It is a fallacy that they will starve if you give them no sugar. It has been shown that they can even use protein when dugar is in short supply. Yeast must be killed DIRECTLY. Believe me, cutting out sugar is a big step but will not cure the problem.

You should also make sure your diet is high in fiber. Take an extra fiber supplement morning and night to faciliate the removal of dead yeast.

Probiotics are something you DO NOT want to take right now. They will become food for the yeast. However, there is one probiotic-like bacterial product you can begin to take if you choose. It may be best to start this after 1-3 months on antifungals but the point is, it won't work against you. It is called Primal Defense. It is a soil-bacteria product. These soil organisms are transient bacteria. That means that they enter the digestive system, set up small temporary colonies throughout the digestive system, and have very important action in the intestines including DIRECTLY displacing yeast and parasites and taking their place. They can implant in the colon REGARDLESS of the condition of your colon. Probiotics can't do that. They can only wipe out bugs when the probiotics themselves are outnumbering the bugs. soil organisms take over like an invisible army just towering over all that comes before them.

It is advisable to take primal defense for 1-3 months before begining probiotic therapy. By this time, the antifungals and soil bacteria would have killed off the bugs and re-established the proper colon pH. At this time, you can start probiotics. The best product I have seen thus far is called Flora Source. Coming this fall is going to be an even more powerful probiotic that contains something like 500 Billion organisms per capsule. Right now though, Flora Source contains 14 strains of organisms, and contains 15 billion bacteria per capsule. If you search the internet, you will find counts as high as 100 Billion or more. But, they don't have the research to back them up. AND, they don't boost 14 different strains of the most highly researched probiotics on the planet.

I hope this will get you started on a self-program of yeast elimination.

Some other useful products people have told me about includes a high-potency cellulase enzyme product called Candex. See, yeast protect themselves with a coating of cellulose. Cellulase digests this coating and the yeast simply die. They CANNOT survive once this happens. There is less of a die-off reaction because toxins aren't released from the yeast in this manner. Only when they are attacked using antifungals. Many digestive enzyme products contain cellulase but none have the ammount in this product. I believe it is 220,000cu's. It must be taken between meals or it won't digest the yeast. It will onl digest fiber in your food.

I believe that L-glutamine is a must for anyone with altered bowel ecology. It is the prefered fuel for the lining of the colon. Be conservative and take between 21/2 and 5g per day in divided doses between meals. Some people complain of slight constipation when going over 10g per day but rarely does this happen at this lowe dose. It has no side-effects and is THE best nutrient for leaky gut syndrome which results from chronic altered gut ecology. The powder is tasteless and disolves in water.

Finally, begin a program of Skilled Relaxation. This will improve blood flow to your intestinal tract and will help you heal faster. It will reduce your stress and can even prevent many diseases. Practice for 20 minutes 2x per day. Please look in the archives here for specifics. It is ESSENTIAL that you do this.

Well, thats about it. look into these ideas and come back if you have questions.

I have found it best to use the Candex first, then the antifungals as others have said. Go for it!

Everyone else's recommendations are great, especially Helping You. His infor has been very helpful to me. I just want to mention that you have been given 1 diflucan. If you have systemic yeast (which I'm sure you do) one talet will not get rid of a vaginal infection. And monistat won't work either.

Although I wouldn't recommend it long term, se if you can get your doctor to prescribe at least two more diflucan, take them every other day. At least your vaginal infection will be under control until you can add some of the other anti-fungals to your regimen.

And since I have been using a diflucan/primal defense combo, I have been feeling soooo much better. The cheapest place to buy it is listed below.

I would recommend brewing fresh calendula flowers, letting the tea cool completely (for obvious reasons!!) and then pouring it into a little spray bottle or travel-size squirty bottle. After using the the bathroom, rinse the labia with that tea. It's soothing and antiseptic and will help cool you as you get better...
