3 yr old has scalp fungus

I have learned a lot on this site about fungal infections (especially of the feet/toe nails), but my daughter has fungus in her scalp. This was confirmed by a scraping at the dermatologist.

She's been on 2 rounds of Grifulvin with no improvement. Now the doc has prescribed a 1/4 of a pill of either Lamosil or Spornox (I dropped off the prescription and never picked it up.) for 7 days, 2 weeks off and then another 1/4 pill for 7 days. He also prescribed prescription strength Seltsin shampoo.

I'm very concerned about the oral medication, especially in my 28 pound 3 year old! Will the vinegar work on the scalp? If so, how should I apply it? If I don't give her the oral medication should I still use the shampoo with the vinegar?

Thank you so much!
Lori

Hi, LoriGG.

I have no experience using vinegar for skin infestations. However, there have been some testimonials on this 'site of success with it.

MY concern is that, in a child this age to have such a resistant infestation, that it is due to an internal C-RS even though the culture would not have shown candida. The internal C-RS will reduce the child's resistance to many things not the least of which is skin fungi.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms.

Learn what you can about C-RS on this 'site as well as in the library (especially the pediatric kind) & let us know what you learn.

Walt
