LGS and canker sores

Posted by Dale on March 14, 2002 at 02:19:52:

I have been trying to find out the cause of my canker sores that I've had for the last 10 years. I have never had alot at one time, but I have had one that lasted over a month in the back of my throat. A throat doctor said it was a virus. At the same time I had sore gums, and I did have sores on my inside cheeks. A year or so after that I came down with some oral thrush. That was 3 or 4 years ago. Since then I still have to fight regular sores, may have had 3 or 4 sores near my tonsils in total in my lifetime. Now over that time I have never ate good. Junk food, absolutely no vegetables, other than potatoes, corn, and green beans. And a high activity job that was very stressfull, and not eating enough to keep my weight up. For the last year I have tried to lower my sugar intake, and watch more what I eat. And it did seem it made a difference in the amount and duration of the sores. But since this year started, I seem to be back to having sores almost all the time. Not real painfull, they still dont last as long. But I have a medicine to apply to it that shortens the duration. I also just started probotics, l glutamine. And I have a limited supply of nystatin I got from a family member. My question is if my problem is caused by LGS, and high acidity. And stress. How can I eat enough of the right foods when I cant stand them. Almost every vegetable makes me gag. And I like most fruits, but they contain sugar. And beyond that I need to keep my weight up with lots of calories because my high activity job. So how can I beat this but yet get enough calores for my day when I hate most vegetables?

Have you done anything to determine your metabolic type? That might be helpful.

As to your underlying point, how can you eat healthy when you do not like healthy food, what I will share with you is that over time if you eat the way you should, you will lose the taste for junk food. The American diet is high salt, sugar, and artificial substances. Over time we almost become immune to the taste. If you force yourself to eat properly for a time, when you go back to junk food you will quicky taste the sugar and salt, and you won't like it anymore. At least that is what I have found. And like anything else.....you have to want to first!

Hi, Dale.

Listen to Tom F!

As you age you are going to have more and more symptoms from your LGS and have to work harder and longer to reverse it. When you stop doing stuff that is helping as soon as you are better you will always have recurrence and each time it will be worse.

Do not rry to get your taste buds back until you completely understand how to do it with Beth Loiselle, RD's book: "The Healing Power of Whole Foods".

Hope this helps.

Walt
