Leaky Gut + coffee + bad?

Posted by Leaker on March 19, 2002 at 11:52:19:

I just looked at the Health and Energy site and they say NOT to drink coffee if you have leaky gut syndrome? Is this true about black tea, also???

All caffeine is an irritant to a leaky gut syndrome, this includes chocolate, and soda's ect;

I can certainly feel how coffee irritates my leaky gut, but I'm having a hard time eliminating it. Any ideas of a good morning substitute,other than tea, that will help me get off coffee. Thanks

I "ramped" off of it...

using part de-caf for awhile, and increasing the de-caf amount until it was ONLY de-caf. That made it easier to switch over to herbal tea.

There is so much more to LGS than simply avoiding one or two bad food choices. That's only part of the problem. I don't necessarily think a cup of coffee a day is going to cause a problem there. See the archives regarding chronic bracing, SR, dysbiosis and candida.

Is black tea bad, too?

I thought black tea had antioxidants in it?? Does it have that much caffein in it that it's bad, too?

Right before the crash, Dr Stoll responded to this same sort of question. *IF* I remember correctly, he said coffee/caffeine was ok if you had leaky gut but not if you had candida or were trying to break a refined carbo addiction. I'm sure he'll correct me if I remembered this incorrectly LOL

I need a straight answer. I try to find answers in the archive and its like a continuous maze with no definitive answer. How would one know FOR SURE if they had LGS. What are some of the main'early tell tale signs? Thank you

It depends on what your problem is. Some things require NO caffeine at all, others you can be more liberal with it...

Hi, Lisa.

You are not going to be satisfied with anything any of us can say until you understand LGS yourself and THEN, you will not need us to say anything.
'
That is just the "nature of the beast".

Start with the homepage article and go where it suggests. See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms. There is also a whole chapter in my book on this very basic mechanism (IBS chapter.)

LGS can cause symptoms in ANY part of the bodymind because of the new discoveries about the GALT (Gastrointestinal Associated Lymphoid Tissue), which influences every tissue and cell in the body via at least the immune system. 70% of the immune syatem is IN the GALT.

Once you understand this system ( as well as the rest of us who are still learning) you will be able to use your knowledge to help yourself and others.

It is up to YOU as to how you use the door I have tried to open for you.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

I'm an intuitive not a doctor; Thanks Walt for clearing that up about Leeky Gut as a rule of thumb;
You might have a problem with caffeine, everyone is an individual, you can tell by some of the symptoms you get;
Tune into your body is the best, this is what i do;

I use Raja Cup-and i perk it fresh every day and add soy milk or Goat milk and some honey at times. I love it!
I called the company on this one and found out that it is an anti oxidant and helps mucus break up in the system and is very healthy;

I also really like the Yerba Mate-organic LA Merced, i order it from someone;

The other drink i like is Roasted Dandelion tea with soy milk;
To me these help the coffee cravings-

Hi Terry-lynn
Where do you get Roasted Dandelion tea. I dont drink alot of coffee, and decafe at that. But if I had something to cut the cravings, it would be great.
thanks

At any Health Food Store, you can add Honey and Soy Milk or regular milk and it is delicious and helps the liver;

I have roasted dandelion tea made by The Root of It, Just Dandy. Bought it in a health food store. It comes plain and carob flavored.
