Yeast infection in throat

Posted by TC on March 21, 2002 at 01:54:11:

I have searched and have been able to find any information on yeast other than the vaginal type or candida. I am a 40 year old MALE and have had a sore throat and tongue for over 4 weeks. It is extremely painful to swallow and worsens in the evening. I went to the Dr last week and, after begging he look further, he scoped my throat and was amazed to find a yeast infection! He perscribed 2 pills of Diflucan. It was 70% better within 3 days and now seems to be only 10% better. Not sure how I got this ? What the best treatment would be? or what type of specialist I may need to see to see if it could be a problem elsewhere (Candida?).

I was treated with antibiotics for a sore throat and ended up with a worse sort throat from the antibiotics. Dr. gave me a liquid nystatin to gargle and swallow. Immediate relief.

that caused the fungal infection in the first place (diet, lack of good bacteria in the body, too much sugar perhaps, etc.) isn't changed, then the drugs will only offer temporary releif. The other folks here, or the search funciton for the site should help you figure out what you need to do to change this.

Hi, TC.

Isn't it a shame when we have to force our docs to do their jobs?

I have never heard of 2 tablets of Diflucan curing anything permanently (except in the dreams of the drug salesmen that flock the doctor's office).

Although messy, the cheapest--and most effective--cure for oral or pharyngeal candidiasis is painting with gentian violet just once. No pain and no systemic side effects.

Too cheap for any drug salesman to waste his time detailing it so docs tend to forget about it. A $2 supply (that never gets old) would offer at least 1000 treatments.

Hope this helps.

Walt
