Anemia

Posted by Joanie on April 30, 2002 at 08:43:53:

I have a friend who is undergoing chemotherapy treatments for Hep C. Yesterday, he left me a message and told me that his anemia is worse, and would like to know what alternative methods there are to raise his hemoglobin. The only thing that I know of to do that would be iron supplements, but I'm sure there are other things he should be trying. All comments/suggestions welcome. Thanks a lot.

Namaste`

there are many types of anemia so finding out which type he

Hi Joanie,

I was very aneamic once - through loss of blood. I found that the iron supplements were absorbed much more easily if I took them with high doses of Vit C. All in all it took a good 6 months for my blood cell count to be in the normal range.

Thanks Maz. What type of supplements did you take?

Just the iron supplements prescribed by my doctor. They were 100mg. Don't know what kind. The Vit C was 1 gram with bioflavinoids from the healthshop. However, there are different types of aneamia - as I said mine was from blood loss. Hope this is helpful.

I would have her take LACTOFERRIN. It's an iron-binding protein found in mother's milk and is available as a supplement. The type of iron she should take, if it's deemed necessary, is FERRATIN. It's a superior form of iron.

Also, she should be eating more meats, especially grass-fed beef. It contains an abundance of iron.

The probiotic supplement Primal Defense has great sucess with handling anemia. The soil organisms can produce lactoferrin in the body and contribute to greater iron levels.

Hi, Joanie.

MY approach would be to treat his Hep C with high IV doses of vitamin C and improve his liver's resistance. Both of these approaches not only only have positive side effects but are more effective and less expensive.

See the liver and vitamin C archives.

Let us know what you learn.

I couldn't agree more, however, he's on this 24 week protocol, and can't just stop it now. I did mention the Vit. C IV to him a while back, and has (unfortunately) put his faith in his MD. He just doesn't want to take any more medication, hence the reason for his wanting to do something "natural" for the anemia. Thanks Walt.

I would do that along with glutahione infusions as it will help the liver tremendously. The glutathione can be given with the vitamin C. No side-effects, just greater detoxification and immunity

I also like Walt's suggestion. However, I would do the vitamin C along with glutathione infusions for better results.

Thanks, Joanie.

Hope his decision works out for him. If not, when he finally decides to think for himself, it may not be too late to still do something constructive.
