My son , 3 weeks ago, was shown to have elevated liver enzymes. The norm is supposed to be 30 -60. His was 101. The doctor waited and tested again and today it was 160. Im very worried and his doctor said it needs to be watched but she is not overly concerned. Well i am.. very. He was on a lot of medications and has been off of them for a month. If it was the meds, it should be going down right ? Please get back to me soon. frantic mom here lol Thank you

Hi, Annemarie.

Until your doc knows enough to stop ordering liver death tests and learns how to order true liver function tests and to interpret them, there is little for me to say but that. See the liver archives.

It would also help to know which liver death test these values refer to.

You are right, although many medications are metabolized through the liver and so could easily kill liver cells, by now things should be better. Unfortunately some of them have progressive and lasting effects long after they are stopped.

You need to go to the library and ask the reference librarian to show you how to use the PDR so you can look up each of his meds and see how they could interact with each other to cause this.

He desperately needs true liver function tests!

Walt
