Gallbladder/Heredity

Posted by Anna on September 16, 2002 at 00:23:20:

My grandparents and sister had their gallbladders out, could this mean I could also get gallbladder disease? Is it hereditary?

Since gallbladder disease and dysfuntion is directly related to diet, your chances of getting gallbladder disease are probably more related to how similar your diet and lifestyle is to your kin.
My thoughts.
best to you

I don't think gall bladder disease is hereditary, but I do think that we predispose ourselves to it with regard to our diets. My son's diet was about the same as the rest of the family's but he just ate more of everything than most of us did. That would mean that he got more of the things that he shouldn't be eating, like fats and a lot of carbs. I know that fats are a major contributor to gall bladder dysfunction. My son's gall bladder was removed when he was only 14yrs old. E-mail me if you'd like to chat.

Hi, Anna.

Listen to Cheezi & thessa.

Remember that families tend to eat the same as they grow up--AND therafter.

Since you cannot change your ancestry, why not focus on what you CAN change? Even if GB disease IS hereditary, all it would mean is that you are forwarned to be more careful with your diet than the rest of us.

Walt
