Boosting liver functions

Posted by dstone on September 20, 2002 at 21:46:18:

How do you boost liver functions? I have searched through the archives and I am confused on what you should do exactly. Please point me in a direction that will help. In one archive it suggested to speed up the detox process by drinking water, sauna and boosting the liver.

I know milk thistle is supposed to be good for cleansing and detoxing the liver. Hope this helps a little.

Cleaning up the diet can boost liver function. Eating more raw foods provides enzymes that clean and spare the liver. Beet juice and beet kvass are excellent liver cleansers. Probiotics have been shown to boost liver function. These can be taken in supplement form or eaten as fermented vegetables or milk. Gluathione is the master antioxidant in the human body. In fact, it can be said that there is a direct correlation with the amount of glutathione in our bodies, and our lifespan. Glutathione can be increased with specific amino acids. Certain whey proteins can increase glutathione by providing these amino acids in a very digestible form. Finally, taking supplemental enzymes or lecithin can help spare the liver and increase "liver energy",

Hi, dstone.

I wonder how you missed it :o).

Castor oil packs, pulsed diathermy treatments (ask your chiropractor), alpha lipoic acid, selenium, milk thistle, sylimarin and the things already suggested. There are probably more that I am just not thinking of right now.

Hope this helps.

Walt

Thank you all so much for responding. Now I just have to look into the different options.
