I would like to know if anyone could give a definition of what this is, what causes it and what the treatment might be.

The "parenchyma" of ANY organ just is the actual cells of the organ itself. ALL organs have a fibrous capsule and internal network of fibers to hold its shape. The parenchyma is just the cells that actually do the work of that organ.
