It sounds like your doc is trying to whip up business by being inscrutible about what is going on. The more upset you become the more symptoms he will be able to treat.
It takes 20 years of VERY high triglycerides to cause you any symptoms. How high ARE your "very high triglycerides". What is the normal at the lab where your blood was examined?
Your doc better have more than triglycerides as a reason for 'scanning your liver'. You need to insist that he explain things to your satisfaction. If he doesn't know the answers to your questions, you had better not entrust your health to him!

I have just been put on Lipotrin because my triglyceride level was 416 (normal range 10 - 199); cholesterol level was 240 (normal range 100-199) I am 68 years of age.
In 30 days they will test again to see if it has lowered after I make some changes in my lifestyle (less fat, walking).I do not want to stay on this medication because of possible liver damage. Is there some natural procedure you can recommend to lower the triglycerides other than medication? Thank you.

Physicians have known for years that the only 100% safe and 100% effective approach is a 10% fat diet (Pritikin), the essential oils on the homepage of this 'site, regular daily walking exercise and the regular practice of SR.
Within 6 months all fat problems are normal and the person feels better than they ever have. Now WHY is THAT not the standard of practice???
Since it would take at least 20-30 years for the levels you have to cause you any problems, 6 months time is nothing.
