Hi doc,
I`ve noticed a slight yellowness at the sides of my eyes, could this be Jaundice. I went to the opticians a while a go and he examined my eyes extremely closely and said my eye sight was fine. Surely he would have spotted it if it was? Just wondering anyway ... can you give me any info please?

Was the yellowness there when you had your exam??? If so you needn't worry (especially if you drew his attention to it).
If not, you need to be examined. The way to tell if yellowness is carotinemia or JAUNDICE, is whether the white part of the eyeball gets yellow or not.

I forgot to mention it there, but it is the whites of the eyes that are slightly yellow if you look close in the mirror. So it can`t be anything serious then? What is Carotinemia?

Hi, Mark.
Carotinemia is a yellow discoloration from eating too many yellow vegetables. It NEVER causes any yellow discoloration of the white part of the eye whereas jaundice does.

Its definately the white of the eye that is slightly yellow, so if he never told me to go and get it checked out then is it not jaundice?
