My friend found out by ultrasound that her 3-month fetus has a cyst on its liver which is nearly as LARGE as the liver. It shows up as a perfectly round and completely black blot on the sonogram. The doctor is waiting to see how fast the cyst grows in proportion to the fetus. The archives on cysts seem to deal with external cysts. I can't find anything in the pregnancy archives about anything like this apart from the reference to the Every Woman's Book and the grim statement that for best results lifestyle changes need to occur 2 years before conception.
Is there anything she can do NOW to increase the chances for the fetus? If the mother takes essential oils will it help the fetus? It would crush her if she miscarried. She doesn't practise any wellness that I'm aware of. If you think wellness can help, tell me how to convince her of that because I'm at a loss.

It is never too late for wellness! Just the later it is the less effect it will have. I know of no research linking congenital liver cysts with the essential fatty acids but EVERY fetus will end up with a higher IQ if the woman supplements with them. Since it can do no harm why not?
Since most major birth defects are already linked to nutritional factors it is likely that even something like this will also be found to be related. The research just has not yet been done.
