discoid lupas

Posted by Amy on January 31, 1999 at 23:04:57:

I have red spot on the side of my face about the size of a thumbprint, sometimes it gets really dry and scaly. I also have 4 other little red marks (about the size of a pimple). I have had these for about 4 months now and they are not going away. I have went to a dermatoligist 3 different times. First he said he thought they were insect bites. Then when they didn't clear up he did a biopsy and said that he thought that it might be discoid lupas. Does anyone know exactly what this is, what causes it, and if I need to be worried about it. My doctor doesn't seem to be much help. I would really appreciate help from anyone to understand this.

Dear Amy.

A biopsy is the definitive diagnostic test for any skin condition. Get a copy of the pathology report & put it on the BB. IF this is discoid lupus, it is the mildest form and, especially at this stage, it is totally resolvable.

There is no point of my entering all this stuff on the BB unless the diagnosis is sure. Your doc knows and you need the biopsy report.

Walt
