Dr.Stoll here we are so far. The renal Dr. did not have the results of the bood & urine tests when we saw him. From what he got from her records and seeing her, he thought she might have systemic lupus. He was amazed that her ankle has been inflamed for 5 years. A month ago she had a high blood & protein ct in her urine. Before we left we did blood & urine tests. The protein in her urine was normal then. She did a 24 hr. collection and that was 9.6. The carido Dr. thought the same thing. I know we will be going down again to see the rheumatoid Dr. and have him evaluate her. If it is not SLE do you have any idea of what this might be. Her ANA & DNA Ab IgG came back as None Det and her C3 was 96 and her C4 was 15 - Could she be in a remission? I'd really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks Jill

Dear Jill,
There is little doubt, from what you have said so far, that this is a progressive autoimmune condition.
There is no real difference between progressive rheumatiod arthritis & SLE--or, for that mattere, ANY connective tissue condition in this family. The causes are the same. The differences in their presentation are based on the genetic susceptibility of the individual with whatever they show up with.
I would first use the archives & read everything you can find written by Robert McFerran.
THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Here is a new idea. I have a friend who's into this herbal knowledge. She thought that it might be a virus from whooping cough. Not the disease but the virus. What are your feelings on this. You probably have more access to all this kind of information than I do. I would appreciate you checking this out for me. We are not going to stop with the medical field, this to me is just another avenue to try. Thanks so much for your help. Jill

Dear Jill,
Pertussis (whooping cough) is caused by a bacterium--------
not a virus. Herbs, Homeopathy, Acupuncture, diet, etc., may help this for a while. However even all of them together is not likely to resolve this problem permanently. You MUST learn enough about these mechanisms to do what resolves it. it will never be something you TAKE but something you DO.

My girlfriend has Lupus and is very frustrated because none of the medicines she has taken seem to help. They recently started tapering her steroidal dosage and are lloking for other options. We live in a small community and could use some help. We would also like to know if you could answer a question we have about cognitive symptoms. Her speech get very broken and inconsistent sometimes and she has a hard time concentrating. None of the doctors we have been to have an answer for these problems. A neurologist told her that she might need counseling for anxiety and this is causing the problem. I teach biology and chemistry and his diagnosis does not make sense to me. Could he be right?
Thanks for your help

Dear Eric,
Both you (and your friend if she is able) need to read several references:
1. Go to the link: Modern Medical Interpretation of Stress Immunity & Stress AND Fibromyositis ---Since many of the same mechanisms cause both Lupus and fibromyositis.
THEN, if that makes sense to you, you both should read a copy of my book & consider the resources in the back (link on this page).
Then, if you still have questions, write again.
This is a resolvable problem but only by knowledge of how.

I live in the heat and humidity of florida...Lately I dont know why , but my cheeks and spaces around the cheeks have become very red. I assume it is from the heat and sun but the line of redness ends at the jawbone...I figure if it was sunburn my entire face would be red and not just stop at the jawbone...Does anyone know what this condition is and how to correct it...It sort of is like a similar condition when your face becomes flushed...

Adam,
My wife experiences this to some extent -more so over the past year. There certainly are some herbs and medications that can make you more photosensitive (St.John's Wort is one of the herbs).
Be forwarned that you may run into a mainstream physician that tells you it is lupus or lupus-like. Don't buy this. It has to be a very distinct raised "butterfly" rash.
I believe there are some autoimmune processes that could cause this. Dr. Stoll is the best one to address this for you.
Try doing an internet search for a simple description of what your face looks like "+redness +face +flushing" or something like that.
Peter
I posted a message below under the topic face turning red..I forgot to list other problems I have had with this condition occuring at the same time..Although the redness of the face has occured probably within the last month, I have experienced tingling and numbness in the arms..This tingling and numbness along with soreness of the shoulders is noticeable when waking up in the morning and continues throughout the day...Also when sneezing I notice a numbness and tingling in the arms and shoulders...

There is a page under hotbot on Rosacea.I think it is
http://www.hotbot then you do a search on Rosacea, a condition that generally causes redness of the face.

Dear Adam,
Both Peter & Zarin have good ideas.
This is a form of "sun poisoning" which, of course, is nothing of the sort---but,without having any idea of WHY it happens, the conventional medical community calls it that since it effects where the sun hits MOST (at least at first). There is a LOT less sunlight hitting the skin under the jaw line than above----for example.
ANYHOW, this is a skin hypersensitivity very similar to that experienced with "dermatographia" and "chronic hives". The only difference is the genetic propensity of the individual. THE CAUSES ARE THE SAME.
They are all related to the overwhelming stress-effect storage in the hypothgalamus which finally alters the way our systems respond. In the end, you are going to have to learn about that & deal with it. This is just a message your bodymind is trying to send you. Listen.
I have described the way to address this many times here on this BB. Look at the notes about hives over the past few months & read the references mentioned there.
The rosacea is a real possibility and the only thing different there is that all cases I have seen (since I knew enough to look)--although they have the same cause described above--also have developed LGS and the common consequence of that condition: Candida-Related Syndrome. Once the candida is cleared up, I have not seen a case of rosacea that did not clear up at the same time. HOWEVER, remember, that will only clear up the rosacea. Unless the basic cause (hypothalamus) is dealt with, it will eventually be back.
Hope this is making sense to you.
