should i biopsy or not?

hello,

I am 24 year old male in general good health. About 4 moths ago i noticed just one small pea sized lymphonede in my groin area. I have no clue how long its been their and cant seem to figure out what the cuase is. I have no infections, stds, hiv negative, extc...

I went to the doctor about a month after noticing it and he said its small and not to worry about it unless it gets bigger, or i start having fevers, extc...He also took my CBC which came back all normal.

Well now its been 4 months and this one lymphnode is still their. It hasnt gotten any bigger, but it hasnt gone down either. Its just very puzzling becuase I have no idea why this one gland is swollen. I cant find the cuase. IF this was due to some form of cancer, would u think i would show other symptoms by now like weight loss, fever, extc...Or can symptoms not show up for a long time?? Should i have this one node biopesed or just listen to the doctor and keep eyeing it.

Thanks sooo much for any thoughts...

Hi, gene.

How often a week do you check it?

Walt

Doctor,

Well when i first discovered the gland i was obsessed with touching it.I would feel for it everyday.I think that reall irritated it....Then i discovered yoru website and read how even touching it once can irritate it and keep it up...So since then i would wait like 2 weeks and then feel for it..Just recently, i had gone about 3 weeks and touched it 2 nights ago for the first time...To be honest, it felt like it may have gotten a tiny bit smaller...but after i touch it, the next day it seems like it may get a bit bigger and the area gets a bit sore for a day or two without touching it and then the irritation goes away....I realize i should not touch it all, but im just wondering since its been 4 months, whether i touch it or not, shouldnt it have gone away by now OR can a gland persist for months or even a year for no real reason??

It is only one small gland, and i really dont have any other symptoms....If this gland was a sign of cancer, should i have other symptoms by now??

Docotor, any insight would be most appreciated.

Thanks, Gene.

It has been shown that, if a person knew where to feel a normal node, that they could reliably get it to enlarge just by touching it every day.

Once a node IS enlarged, all it takes to keep it enlarged is to touch it once a week.

It takes an average of 6 weeks of NO touching for nodes to noticeably reduce in size. It might take as long as a year for them to go completely back to normal (with NO touching).
Hope this helps.

Walt

Doctor,

Thanks for your responses...Last question....

Knowing a little about my situation..would u think that i dont have to worry about cancerous reasons for the gland? Just forget all about it??

HikGene.

I would not touch it for 6 weeks and see if it gets smaller or larger. If it gets larger have it biopsied and if it gets smaller fogeddaboudit.

Let us kniow what happens.

Hi Gene,
I have the EXACT same thing going on with me, although mine is in my arm pit. I've had mine for 5 months, with no change and I have the same questions about cancer as you. Any new findings?

in reply to your question about the lymph nodes in th egroin area. ZIt may just be a lymph node that is meant to be there. If you are thin the lymph nodes in certain areas of your body are easier to feel. My sisters and I are all really thin, a while ago I freaked out because I felt a lump in my groin, it was not like it popped out, I had to feel deeper for it. I told my sisters and they to could feel theirs, I went to the doctor and she told me the same thing, I went to see another doctor and they told me the same thing. I sn't this the truth Dr.
