chronic swollen inguinal lymphnodes

Posted by erik on April 20, 2003 at 21:50:35:

Hi. I am a 28 year old male who has had an on-going problem with swollen lymph nodes in my right groin area for the past YEAR or more. The swollen nodes (3 of them) are painless, moveable and change size frequently but never fully subside. the upper most swollen node on my groin crease is quite larger compared to the other 2 swollen ones which are located on my thigh just next to my groin. i have no other symptoms other than this. i am an athlete and i feel great. i havent even taken an anti biotic in about 10 years! i cant even remember the last time i vomited, had a common cold, fever etc... the only thing i can think of is that because i shave my legs and my groin area its causing this chronic problem. but if thats the case why is it only on one side of my groin or not anywhere else on my legs etc? i also stopped shaving my legs and groin for several months and the nodes were still enlarged. i am very sad about this because i am aware of what this could possibly be. i currently have no health insurance, otherwise id be at the doctor yesterday. thanks for listening.

Hi, Eric.

How often do you check to see if they are still there?

Walt

I am NOT a doctor...but I would think if this is something really
serious you would have other symptoms by now...maybe Dr. Stoll
can verify...

Hi Walt. thanks for writing. I can see these nodes sticking out without even having to feel them. every time i undress, shower etc. ive even had several women ask me what they were while being intimate. so its not like im poking around for them.

Im very fit walt. im 6-2 210 pounds. my body fat is 8 percent. i wouldnt say im skinny but im certainly no where near fat. i am very lean. the one node ranges in size from about a kidney bean to about 2 kindey beans put together. the other 2 which are oh my thigh next to my groin are slighty larger than peas. this sucks walt. i have no insurance. how much will these tests cost?

Thanks, Eric.

This is probably nothing but a biopsy will be what it takes to reassure you. Stop spending any money for anything fun and save up a couple of hundred dollars. Tell the receptionist that you want the appointment for a lymph node biopsy, right under the skin, before you make the appointment. If the doc is not set up to do the biopsy, when you go in, you should not feel you need to pay for the appointment.

Let us know what you learn.

I am a 26 year female who had went to the gyncologist becaus of some abdomen pain in my left side she sent me to get a pelvic sonogram and that came bck ok. So the pain seem to start to come and go. She recomended me to see a GI doctor but with my insurance I had to have referal from my primary doctor. So I went to him and he refused togive it to me he sees nothing wrong. During this examination he found a lymphnode that he said was swollen on my neck towards the back. He told me to take pencilin and come back in 2 weeks if it was still there he wanted to cut it out right there in his office and send it for tersting. well it stayed the same so i went for 2nd opion and she could not even find it so i showed her but then i had found more. I think it might be from me playing with them. They dont stick out of my skin or anything. So my 2nd opion gave me referal to see surgeon and on the referal it said no sighns of inflamation.
The surgeon told me there was 3 things he was going to do catscan, ENT and if those came bak ok he was going to cut it out. I dont understand that at all!!! Ihave been going crazy. Ihad a cbc twice and nothing was abdormal and my nodes are bout the size of a pea(2) and the one is a little larger than a pea maybe like a chic pea that one I have on the other side too in same place. My ct came back normal but still waiting to go to ENT. Should I be a scraid as I am? I suppose to be getting married in August but this has me so scraid. I have been vertigo weekness foggyness. they told me iam suffering from anxiety so they put me on anti depressents.which i could not handle so i stopped taking. I tried lik 4 of them, and felt worse. Could I have FMS? Is the weekness and stiff ness all in my head? Could I MS?

Erik and Dr. Walt,

I have this same exact problem. On my right groin. I've just had a surgery for a hernia about 3 months ago. I first went to the doctor about a year and a half ago and got these lymphs checked out, when i thought i had a hernia the doctor passed both off as nothing, but i found out later i did have a hernia, but haven't had a second look on the lymphnodes. I am only 20 years old. I am fairly skinney, semi-fit. 5-11, about 150-155. the hernia was inguinal maybe there is some sort of connection?

Hi, Sunny.

In my opinion, the doc who gave you penicillin, with what you are describing, should not be practicing medicine. You deserve better. Antibiotics have RARELY ever been a treatment for any enlarged nodes!

I think you are worrying about NOTHING and most of your symptoms can now be ascribed to your "treatment".

My suggestion would be to immediately begin serious wellness and bring to your marriage a healthy and exuberant bride. See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms. Get the free protocol on the home page "How to be Healthy". Go to the archives.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Hi, T.

In my opinion, you need to fire that first doc. Hernias and nodes can only be mistaken for each other though the most careless of examinations.

Should be no connection. Nearly every skinny guy I know can feel many of their superficial nodes if they try. How often do you check to see if they are still there?
