Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any experience or advice... my daughter is 16 months old and has had swollen lymph nodes for about 6 months. They are located along the side of her neck down to where her collar bone begins. Several are big enough to see (marble size down to pea)and some show up only when she turns her head a certain way. They began with 1 set at first around the time she had her first ear infection combined with pneumonia. They never went away ( the nodes), and the Dr said not to worry , probably just very reactive. Then last week I saw the large marble sized one ( feel like a bad mom to pass that ) and made an appointment. The Dr said he felt too many and did a cbc and chest x ray. Cbc came back with an elevated white count and the xray was clear/normal. Once again, he said she was probably fighting off an infection , antibiotics wouldn't help , and her lymphs were probably very sensitive. Is this all that should be done ? Otherwise my daughter is healthy, no cold symptoms, occasional low grade fever, and these swollen glands, and she has been gradually sleeping more when she was always very energetic. I was told by a friend to get a second opinion, but the head of peds at our hospital ( army ) was the dr she saw, and usually a second opinion there is a reading of her chart, a quick physical and nothing more ( past experience with my other kids ). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
p.s.
no furthur ear infections or lung pneumonia found

Look at www.immed.com
She could have been exposed to Gulf War Illness since
you mentioned that you were taking her to an Army hospital.

My husband served there ( Desert Storm ) from beginning to end and has some of his own problems, along with our second child having heart and kidney disease. Thanks for the site info.

Hi, TeraJ.
Your child is on the downslope of the Bell Curve of immunity. Chronically enlarged nodes like this mean that the regualar size of the nodes is not enough to make up the shortfall.

You are going to have to learn about wellness and apply it to your child. When she gets old enough to understand she is going to have to take over the job since her genetics will always be weaker in this regard. Managed correctly, she can be even healthier than her "lucky" friends whose immune reserves let them be careless about their health. In the long run, she will be a LOT better off than they will be IF she continues to take care of herself.
