dear docotor,
about 3 months ago i was working 2 full time jobs and i had a LOT of stress due to a home situation. i developed a small swollen lymph node behind my ear and a another one on my neck about an inch from my earlobe. within 3 days the node behind my ear was the same size (about the size of a pea) but the one on my neck was really big and painful. i went to see a doctor and he checked my throat and all that and did an automated hemogram and said that i was fighting a bacterial infection. he prescribed 10 day antibiotics. well, i didnt take them like i was suppose to so with in 3 days i had developed white spots on my tonils. i kept taking them, though and the spots went away. after i finsihed my 10 day pills (which took me 14 to finish--oops)the white spots were back. the lymph node in my neck had gone down considerably. well, i went back and he said that i had tonsillits and gave me 3day antibiotics. i took them and within 5 days, my throat was fine. i am constantly touching my lymph node, though. which is still swollen though not NEARLY like it was. the little one behind my ear is too. i know that you said not to touch them, i am really trying. but will you please just ease my concern and tell me when they will go away? im sorry to bother you. thank you soooooo much!!!!!

but I'll tell you - they WON'T go down unless you stop touching. You have to get yourself busy with something else when you feel the urge and BREAK THIS HABIT you've gotten of touching the swollen node(s). Then and only then will you know if it will go down.

june,
what could it be if it doesnt go down?? i read that cancer symptoms and other serious diseases are night sweats, fever, etc. i havent had these, but i do have a tendency to fret about small things. also, my wisdom teeth are coming in if that has anything to do with it. so far today, i have not touched them!! but about how long does it take for them to do down? would i have other symptoms (change of size, symptoms listed above, etc.) if it were something serious? i am so sorry to bother, thank you soooo much for responding. cancer runs in my family and there are just so many diseases out there today, you know. thank you again

Hi, Jessie.

I think this has been archived in the functional anatomy or the lymph node archives but, here goes again:

Lymph nodes are programmed to enlarge when their usual size is insufficient to handle whatever is going on. Your intensely stressful lifestyle has used up your reserves and so the nodes have enlarged to try to take up the slsck.

It is time for you to back off on the demands of your lifestyle and give your bodymind a chance to catch up. This is the best warning your body mind probably has for getting you to slow up--short of the next step which will be a lot harder to deal with.

You can ratchet up your reserves by practicing serious wellness but you really need to slow down for a year or so, for the fastest benefits.

Questions?

Walt
