antibiotics and lymph nodes

Posted by margaret [1285.1746] on January 21, 2005 at 09:43:43:

In August of last year I noticed a small moveable lump on my neck while trying to massage out a stiff neck. Two months later I saw my physician who said it was a lymph node, gave me antibiotics and said if it persisted to see an ENT. The ENT gave me more antibiotics (14 days worth) and said he wasn't concerned about the gland since it was less than a cm. I was to follow up in 2 months. NOW, I've followed up with him and he said the gland is not considered pathological since it is less than a cm and to check it periodically to see if it enlarges. If it does, he'll give me more antibiotics or take it out. Does this make any sense? Also, is it unusual to have just 1 palpable gland in your neck of this size? (Mine is located in the area that drains the scalp). I'm just really surprised that I was told by this doctor (who is a head and neck surgeon) to keep checking on this gland. What would you advise?

Margaret,

Your doctor should be taken out and shot, without a blind fold..You need to read up on the lymph system..It's job is to remove toxins from your body..When there are more toxins than it can handle or your bodies energy is being used for digestion, toxins will be stored in the lymph nodes..Taking antibiotics only causes more toxins..Removing the node will hinder the only line of defence your body has..To correct the problem, start with a diet change..Eat as much raw whole fruits and vegteables as you can..Juicing them is also good..Watch how you combine your foods, so your digestion doesn't use a lot of energy..The only way your lymph system can clean and remove toxins is through movement or exercise..Walking is one of the best ways..Also rebounding..If you can find a infar-sauna, it would aid the detoxing process..Give your body the help it is asking for, don't add to the problem..

Hi, Margaret.

None of the physicians you have seen are making any sense, in MY opinion. Antibiotis are NEVER a solutioin to a node without the physician knowing of a bacterial infection that is specifically causing the node enlargement. A node this size is NEVER treated! The doc who told you to "keep checking it" probably has a second home paid for by biopsying nodes that stay enlarged just because of that stupid advice.

In my opinion, you need to stop feeling it and see if it does not get smaller in about 3-6 months. Even if it just does not enlarge, it is safe to ignore. This is well within the normal range of nodes in that area of your body. See any anatomical atlas about the normal lymph nodes of the body.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt

Dr. Stoll,

Thank you so much for your advice. I just don't understand why I was given so many antibiotics. When I added it all up, I was on antibiotics for 2 months! I was continually checking on the node, etc. I was even given a sinus CAT scan ($545!!!) to see if maybe a latent sinus infection was causing the node in my neck. When I asked if the node was even enlarged the response was, "Well, I can feel it." These physicians in my area are supposedly reputable doctors (with huge, fancy offices I might add). What a disappointment! Anyway, thanks for your input.
