Two days ago the lymph gland on the right side of my neck became swelled and painful. The pain has gotten severe in the last day. I went to my family doctor and he said it was probably infected and gave me antibiotics for a week. I have had no other symptoms such as fever, sore throat, or ear ache. The only thing is last week I had a headache for 3 days. The neck pain is manageable with Tylenol or Advil every few hours, but its still there. Do you think I should try to see another physician or do the think the diagnosis is probably correct?

Kim,
I think you should use hot soaks and not palpate it to see if it is still there. If it is not giving you less pain within 2 weeks it should be biopsied. If it is, keep up the hot soaks at least 4 times a day until all pain sensation is gone and then wait 6 weeks for it to go away on it's own. If it does not, THEN it is time to get it examined again.
Let us know how you do.

Hi, Mar.
A cyst is IN the skin and a lymph node is UNDER the skin.
