Dear Scott,

Call (800) 447-0150 and have them FAX you the level of information that you want. They could also help you find the right introductory reference in your library.

Let us know what you learn.

Finding the right Massage therapist

Dear Walt,

After reading your book (thanks for sending it!) I am very impressed by you. I wish you were my doctor. I envy the patients who were able to visit your clinic with the incredible team of specialists you had. What an excellent way to help people heal.

Well, I read about body bracing and the need to have the two week massage with 3 sessions a week. I called several places looking for someone who had heard of the term 'body bracing' and no one heard of it before. Most of them never heard of the book 'Mind As Healer, Mind As Slayer' either. Most of the certified massage therapist did agree that massage is HIGHLY effect at relieving store up stress.

I found someone who has training in the Rolfing technique. He said that he is much gentler in his massage than he was encouraged to be at the school attended. He said he tries not to massage so vigoursly that it causes pain and that some therapists will do this.

He does have TMJ experience but it very gentle. I think this might work out for me.

I still can't eat food. I can only drink Ensure. I tried soup and couldn't eat it at all a few days ago.

I found another TMJ doctor who is willing to try and help me improve without surgery. There have been so many changes to my bite from other TMJ therapies with mouth splints that surgery may end up being my only option. I also may have joint deteriation and arthritis.... more to worry about ;)
He also asked if I had been diagnosed with fibromylagia which I have not.

I still have these chills and the cold causes me to really tense up and then my jaw aches.

The improved nutrition is reducing the amount of white coat on my tongue! I knew it would. My panic attacks are fading too.

I am going to read your section on magnesium. I hope I can find a way to ingest more magnesium since I doubt I can swallow any pills. I will see a natural nutritionist to help me with this.

I wish I had not let this go for so long. That inner voice told me to go to massage therapy 1 1/2 years ago and to work at reducing the stress....I did not listen well enough.

I remember you wrote that a massage therapist is like a dance partner. I hope I find one that does not step on my toes. ;)

Thanks Walt

Dear Pam,

Thanks for the boost.

I am disappointed to hear that your available therapists have such a superficial understanding of what they do.

Perhaps is you said "stored muscle tension due to fight or flight stress-effect" they might know what you were talking about. I just expect that any professional would IMMEDIATELY recognize the term "bracing" for what it is.

ANY masseuse needs to have Dr Pelletier's book in their library. (sigh)

You are on your way! Since, in the end, what YOU learn is much more important than what any masseuse of Rolfer does, I am not too worried about what THEY know.

Walt

Thanks Dr. Stoll for you comments and encouragement. I am beginning to see that what I learn is crucial to my health. I did find that most were aware of the fight or flight affects of stress and that massage was very effective with it. None had heard of Pelletier.

I have found this book "Mind As Healer, Mind As Slayer" incredible! The section about personalities and illness was very enlightening. I seem to lean toward the cancer type of personality. I need to do some spiritual and emotional healing in those areas.

The more I learn about health the more I think LOVE is one of the most important factors. Not only do I think we need to love ourselves and each other but also to love humanity enough to not put chloramine in the drinking water, allow drugs into the water supply, pollute the air and the land, put up high power lines near homes, pollute the sea with filth and garbage and spray hundreds of pesticides on our food, listen to our bodies and what they are telling us about our healing and on and on...

Thank you Dr. Stoll for giving us a greater awareness. Thanks for caring so much that you give your time to us. You have given me more TIME and caring than any doctor I have seen.

Thanks for giving us hope,
pamela

Dear Pam,

"BY GEORGE, I THINK SHE'S GOT IT!" (grin).

Thanks for the boost. It is by seeing people like you get back in control of their lives, that I get "Those treasures more precious than gold." that the Bible tells about.

Namaste` Walt

Re: Rolfing? carpo-tunnel solution

I am realizing I have no further scientific information to add to this discussion, yet I had an expereince this pm at a health fair, a fifteen minute rolfing treatment on my tired right forearm and hand. I've worked as an interpreter of American Sign Language for the past twelve years. My right hand does all the fingerspelling! Intuitively, for that mater - common sense - tells me, "Rolfing is the way to go Jami." Interestingly, for the past two years I have worked closely with a Deaf client who suffers with carpal tunnel. This person had all the treatments; neurologist, physical therapy, and finally surgery, and still they suffer. One fortunate circumstance for them, they have health insurance. I, on the other hand (:, have none. I would be very appreciative of any comments about experiences (symptoms, treatment, improvements)along with other benefits gained that you did not expect. Thanks

Dear Jami,

Call (800) 447-0150 for more Rolfing information. They can give you a lot more information about the questions you asked than I. All I have is my own experience & that of many of my patients.

The bodymind is a unit & so Rolfing the entire body (10 sessions) is MUDH more effective than anything done locally.

Let us know what you learn.

Walt
