I have read all of the messages relating to Pergo Flooring and could not determine a general consensus about this product and it's impact on persons with MCS. My questions are: Does it outgas? Is it tolerable? I would appreciate all opinions and hearing from someone with MCS who has tried this flooring. Thanks!

Hi, Peggy.
Have you contacted CIIN (Chemical Injury Information Network) about this?
Their electronic address is CIIN.ORG
Let us know what you find out.

I have a friend with severe MCS who had all of her flooring except kitchen replaced with Pergo. She may have used something special as an adhesive, but I'm not sure of that. It's possible she had the installation done while she was away, or at least away for the day with windows open and fans going as much as possible.
Someone posted about a book that might answer questions such as this... by Dr. William J. Rea called "Your Home, Your Health, Your Well-Being.

Thank you Nutmeg and Dr. Stoll. I will check with CIIN and I have an order in at the library for the book you mentioned. Pergo has a new system that does not require any glue at all so that is a plus. Thanks again.

I have MCS (much much improved, thanks to detox), and I also have had pergo for six years now, and I'd far rather have it than any other flooring. It also cleans up nicely and continues to look new. I did not have any special precautions when I had it installed, simply because I did not know about all the gassing dangers. However, I do recommend it, and I also like the fact that I can sweep the dirt off the floor and not have it hiding in any carpet fibers.

Having had severe MCS, I think I would do
a sniff test with the flooring Plus the foam
underlament and adhesives. Even if I had to
buy some of each to test them. You could also
try to find an installer and visit an
installation.
The flooring should be pretty inert since it
is like formica.
I once bought decorative cork wall tiles
and the house smelled like there had been
a fire. They must have torched them to get
the dark color. I couldn't take the smell and
this was before MCS when I was inhaling all
kinds of solvents.

Pergo is very nice, but it's only water-resistant on the top. If that's an issue for you (such as having it installed in your bathroom might be), consider using WilsonArt instead. That's water-resistant on the underside, as well. I have it in my bathroom, hallway, dining room, kitchen and back entrance. Wonderful stuff.
