Flax seed oil

Posted by Sarah on November 16, 2002 at 20:00:01:

My doctor suggested I take flax seed oil to improve my Omegas. Test showed I was deficient. When I take it I notice a pain in my right side just underneath the ribs. Could it be causing a problem with my gallbladder? I have also tried taking fish oil and it causes red splotches on my chin. I need the essential oils to help with joint/muscle achiness. Any suggestions?

Hi, Sarah.

Not likely bothering your gallbladder. Why do you react to so many things? Have you considered LGS as the thing behind everything?

Try a PHARMACEUTICAL-GRADE fish oil. Other fish oils can have contaminants that you could be reacting to.

Flax oil is high in ALA, a substance that CONVERTS to Omega-3's in the body, but many people are unable to make the conversion making flax oil a less-than-optimal substitute for fish oil. If you just CAN'T take fish oil, your best bet is to lower your consumption of omega-6's found in grains, vegetable oils, and commerical meats. These can compensate somewhat for a lack of omega 3's to a small degree. See, overdoing omega-6's can DEPLETE omega 3's. Get your omega-3's from walnuts, grass-fed beef, and DHA-enhanced eggs. If you can get more of those foods and less of the omega-6 variety, you should fare nicely within a few months

Walt,
Thanks for follow-up. I have MCS, RADS, neurotoxicity. I was exposed to chemicals in building renovations that started it then exposed to chronic sewer gas at next building. I'm under the care of a wonderful occupational dr. I found this site and thought I would get an opinion on the omegas. I do use a pharmacutical grade fish oil and it's not processed from fish containing mercury either. The flax seed was also suggested. It really seems to help with the achiness. On a scale of 1-10 my lab results came back a 4 for inflamation. I could have told them that. Felt like I had the flu all the time. My Dr.'s treatment is based on stopping the exposures and giving the body time to heal itself. I've done all the tests and it shows severe depletion of almost everything. We're supplementing whats defiencent in the body so that the body has a chance to try and repair. Her philosophy is treat the cause and not the symptoms. I found this website and read a number of postings and liked the info provided here. Thanks for any input. Also can you tell me what LGS is? I don't remember seeing this acronym before.

Hi, Sarah.

See the glossary for any unfamiliar terms (leaky gut syndrome).

What are you doing about SR (skilled relaxation)? For something as serious as this you are going to need all 3 legs of the wellness stool ASAP.

Let us know what you learn and how you do and keep going to your CE.

Walt

Dr. Stoll,
Thanks for replying. I started using colustrum and when GI panel was done no candida or evidence of LGS.Colustrum is great stuff. I use product from Kirkman labs as they developed their products for autistic children who are extremely sensitivity to most things. I knew about leaky gut just hadn't used LGS for it before. As for relaxation technique, is that a special program? Am suppose to get a hour of free time to myself each day as adrenal gland is stressed. Life is full of stress, am fighting battle with workman's comp, and a federal lawsuit for discrimination for failing to accommodate and making me sicker. I would appreciate any recommendations on literature or book for additional health info. As I said have great dr. but like to read and become as knowledgeable as possible myself. Knowledge is power in healing and life. Also what is 3 legs of stool? Sorry to be so ignorant but brand new to this board. Thanks
Sarah

hi Sarah

my situation is not too unlike your own. Dr Stoll's three legged wellness program provided a great boost to my recovery. THe relaxation technique we called skilled relaxation ideally is a twenty minute "rest period" twice per day when you trigger the body's relaxation response. This primarily does two BIG things: discharges ACCUMULATED, STORED stress from from the hypothallamus at a rate about twenty-some times faster than quality sleep AND facilitates gut healing from uniterrupted blood flow to the linings, not to tense muscles throughout the body. This is extremely powerful, because it addresses not just the "stress" we face in psychological terms everyday, but the more damaging stress that has built up in the body from chemical, electromagnetic sources and psychological sources. Dr Stoll;s book will explain why the first two of those are problems bigger than the third. Dr Stoll;s book is excellent.

Another excellent book , especially for people with issues like us, is Dr SHerry Rogers's TIRED OR TOXIC: A BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTH. Ofcourse, Dr Wm Rea's manuals for treatment of chemical sensitivity are very useful too. CHEMICAL SENSITIVITY, volumes I - IV ...not aimed at the lay person though.

If you are looking for new ways to change how you interact with toxins around you to make yourself feel better, you can get a lot of helpful clinical ecology tips from the strangely titled THE CURE FOR ALL DISEASES (1995) by hulda Clarn, ND, PhD.

May I ask you about your sleeping environment ? And about your doctor-- where is she located ?
What did you have put in your teeth if you had mercury taken out ?

I am quite interested to hear anythig you have to say about your approach, becauise I have taken a different one and done pretty well...
thanks

Thanks, Sarah.

Listen to Leon.

Always go to the glossary for any unfamiliar terms and then to the home page and the archives until you begin to understand.

Leon,
Thanks for the info. I have ordered Dr. Stolls book. Relaxation technique sounds good. I had amino acid, essential fatty acids, minerals, GI panel, hormone, thyroid, liver detox, etc. tests done to see where my body wasn't funcioning right. Based on result Dr. put me on appropriate supplements plus antioxidants like C, E, selenium, to help detox. And also cholestrum to keep GI system happy. Also am on nebulizer gluthoine as my body is so depleted of it. Supposedly nebulizer is the only way to get it as stomach acid usually destroys and this way it goes right to lungs/respiratory system. I keep windows open when weather nice and still cracked when have heat on. Use 2 charcoal filters in my house. Have changed cleaning products and use products from co. specializing in products for people like me. I limit my exposures to know causes of VOCs. Mold VOC really does me in. I use an air mattress that was purchased several years ago before I had this. No petrochemical products used in house.
You said you have taken a different approach. What are you doing and is it working?
Have some mercury in blood. Dr. believes it is from the hydrogen sulfide in sewer gas that caused corrosion of fillings. Gluathione is suppose to help get rid of that also. Haven't done anything about fillings. Needed to get strength and immune system working better before exposing myself to more.
