Dr. Stoll- food intolerances/MCS time frame

Dr. Stoll, I would appreciate your opinion on how long to keep doing what I am doing before seeing significant benefits in food intolerance and lessening of severe chemical sensitivity. I expect you to say 3-6 months to really begin to see differences, please correct me if I am mistaken.

6 months ago, I began exercising 14 miles a day, drinking half my body weight in water a day.

2 months ago I began with a Naturopath as well and changed diet. At this point, I tolerate chicken, salmon, romaine lettuce, organic whole brown rice- no other foods. Naturopath interpreted Adrenal function as very low, Liver and Intestines as inflamed, and gave Chelated Mineral supplement, Digestive Enzymes, Probiotic, and Homeopathic Remedies for detoxification/Biotherapeutic Drainage. He recommended that we start slowly. I take Garlic when I can tolerate it.

My SO says that he sees significant differences in my health in the last 2 months. I am a little less sensitive to chemicals (still cannot return to university studies, do my own banking or read books, pump gas), PMS GONE (he must be thrilled with that!), mood swings GONE, and I am now out 2 hours a day whereas before I was in bed most days with flu-like symptoms. Adrenal function and Liver function have apparently improved- Naturopath uses Meridian Testing. Migraines and Sinusitis appear to be lessening (I consciously practice jaw relaxation- not allowing teeth to touch- on a continual basis, with considerable success). I practice SR from 20-90 minutes once a day, and am changing this to two sessions. I have not had my relaxation tested yet, but my eyes roll back in my head involuntarily and yet I'm completely aware. I feel a hair away from being asleep, and yet intensly focused. My body temperature drops. When I end a session, I am off balance for about ten minutes. I feel wonderfully better with the SR.

I am somewhat concerned that I have not had the medical tests recommended on this site- Naturopath did a comprehensive urinalysis. Don't know what he has planned, I am aware there is more planned, will ask. Naturopath was very pleased with progress. I am aware that I am impatient. I am extremely anxious to create enough wellness so that I can return to university studies. I would trust your opinion.

In the event of any misinterpretation: I am aware that wellness is a lifetime committment. I just want to make sure I am indeed impatient rather than not engaged enough to make progress.

my severe food sensitivity after a chemical
injury that had me eating little more than
rice and a little meat was reversed after I
ate oatmeal when I wanted to find an
alternative to rice. The stabing pains that I
would get in my ears, eyes, and jaw that
would last for days were gone in 15 min after
eating some oatmeal and they stoped
happening after a few bowls. My severe MCS
lessened a lot after that also.

I recently read that oatmeal has B-6 in it
and that the liver needs it to do its work so
maybe that is why the O meal worked. Every
organ in my body didn't function right after
the injury and I had to sleep often and a lot

Congratulations H.

I would say that by any conventional standard your progress has been miraculous!

Your 14 miles a week will do the most good if it is divided into 3 sessions.

From your description of the SR, you probably do not need to get it checked BUT it will be much more effective once you get doing it twice a day by dividing your present time into 2 sessions.

You will look back on this time, 2 years from now, as a bad dream.

Thanks for sharing. Your experience will help others to understand that there are better options out there.

Namaste`

Walt

hi

wow H your story is amazing.

how can you find enough energy to exercise 14 miles ? and i wonder what kind of water you drink ? and-- gosh-- how you drink so much ?!

my story is a little like yours...mcs...but i have been on my own-- no good doctor here! i still can only do some of the things you mention with symptoms appearaing as i do them, but i still do them.

i wonder about your living environment. i made mine as much as possible into "the oasis." you too ? (got my oasis concept from Dr Sherry Rogers' great book basically about living to get beyond MCS TIRED OR TOXIC: A BLUEPRINT FOR HEALTH.)

what saved me was finding the macrobiotic diet. it is basically an arrangement of whole foods. when i began that, all of my symptoms except the very worst went away within a week (though to come back slowly). it provided a frame work for me to find foods that were completely new to me (so no allergy issue) and pure. later i aklso found that some foods i thought i could not tollerate were not a problem-- only the mold on them was...so handling and cooking to get rid of the mold made them ok for me!

...though i still could never deal with salmon or chicken...kind of figure its the natural toxins (malvin or phenyl-iso-thiocinate) in chicken and maybe the farm-fed garbage and stimulants the salmon get in thier raising.

your story is inspiring. thanks

you give the exercise a lot of the credit ?

for whatever its worth (and thats probably not a comparison)...diet, sr, and exercise, adjustment of frame of mind, plus a few other therapies brought me back to nearly complete functionality under a year's time.

As for exercise- I push myself to oblivion. I force myself. I have almost passed out and felt incredibly nauseus, I am fortunate to have a very supportive SO who goes with me and drives (I cannot drive). I realize that if I don't, my lymphatic system will not function properly.

I was inspired also by a person in Vermont who had severe MCS- bedridden also- avid snowboarder. He is now relatively well, but extremely careful. Exercise was critical for him (as was diet).

Exercise is a HUGE BENEFIT. Would not be the same without it.

Force myself to drink the water too. We bought a high quality water filter, and then also drink glass bottled water.

Very interested in Macrobiotic.

As for oasis, we have done the best we can, but will be moving. Where we are, there are so many environmental toxins I will not get completely well until we move.

I don't know about amazing- I can't tolerate perfumes or smoke or anything- just a tiny bit better- still highly reactive. The organ functioning, stamina, and well-being is what has really changed so far. I suppose that comes first.

On the Salmon, I do not eat farm fed. Only Wild.

Thanks for the encouragement, too. Great to hear you are better.
