I have been free from MCS-related problems
for over 5 years. I am passing on this
e-mail to Dr. Stoll.

Dr. Stoll,
I was happy to find your web site. I was
diagnosed with MCSS (multiple chemical
sensitivity sydrome) back in 1987 --
worked in a "sick" building with an auto
shop, print shop, and cosmetology. It
was a community college near Lake
Superior in northern Michigan. I was
sick there 7 years -- chronic hives
(every day), lost voice, spaciness,
passed out, diagnosed as having "asthma
induced by chemicals". Needless to say,
my health was a mess.
I started a search for wellness that
took me on a most interesting journey.
In the process, I had the amalgam
removed from my teeth and took chelated
colloidal minerals. Both the amalgam
removal and the minerals seemed to
lessen the severity of the hives. I
also improved my diet and took all
kinds of vitamins, minerals, and herbs.
Interestingly enough, I also started
looking at other aspects of my life and
learning more about who I was as a
person that perhaps contributed to or
kept me stuck in my present condition.
As we are growing up and have situations
that are too painful for us to deal with
we "stuff" the feelings and emotions
inside. I believe this "stuff" causes
blockages and "dis-ease".
Even with all the positive changes I
had made, however, my health in general,
seemed to just get worse. Fortunately,
my position as Director of Computer
Services was terminated in 1994 (college
politics did not look very favorable on
a vocal clean-air advocate who didn't
have a union for protection). Shortly
after I was out of the "sick buildings"
on campus, my health made a complete
turnaround. I am now MCS/MCSS free --
one of the lucky ones.
I did believe, though, as I was going
through my struggles that there was a
magic answer out there for other people
with health problems. It was just a
matter of finding the right combination
and, of course, in not giving up.
During the time I was searching for
wellness, I got a "sense" of the
power of the AMA (looking down on
environmental medicine because results
of patients' treatments via "non-
traditional" methods were not
scientifically proveable) and also of
the ADA (continuing to use mercury
amalgam fillings because "they" said
these fillings were perfectly safe).
Hal Huggins, the Colorado dentist who
has been treating patients by removing
the amalgam was ostracized by the ADA.
It's a crazy world out there. Common
sense needs to prevail instead of
arrogance.

Karen,
Having have had MCS and food sensitivities from a chem
exposure I know what you went through. I am a lot better but
wouldn't say completely. Geting away from most causes helps
a lot.
