Dr. Stoll: Your bulletin board is a great source for information and help. Thanks!
I would like to ask you a couple of questions. I was told several years ago by my doctor that I have asthma. I went to see him because of a "choking" sensation in my throat. I do not "wheeze". I only am bothered by this choking. I cannot wear any cologne, frangranced hair products, etc. I have to wear a mask to clean my bathroom, etc. or the choking is worse. There are times that I am not bothered at all, and other times (like now), it is very uncomfortable. I have an inhaler (albuterol) that I use occasionally. I don't like to use it. It causes my heart to race and also makes me jittery. My questions are:
1. If left untreated, is this choking sensation dangerous? Someone told me it is hard on my heart.
2. What would you suggest for treating this?
If anyone else out there is reading this and has any ideas on this, please feel free to jump in.
Thanks again Dr. Stoll!

Hi, Danielle.
Without wheezing, this is NOT asthma!
This is called MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) which can ultimately cause asthma among many other things.
Start by going to the glossary, archives, search engine, etc., about MCS. Then start finding a good Clinical Ecologist in your area (try search engine). Be sure you have ALL of your medical records in your home to share with the doc you finally select--let her make copies--you keep your originals.
At least some of your "choking" symptoms are worsened by bracing (see the same resources as above).
This is a big job, finding all that you need on this 'site since it has become so large, but, one thing leads to another and we have done our best to make it at least possible for anyone to DO that.
With the right help, and your learning, you should be seeing results in a few months and complete clearing in a couple of years. Please share your experiences, as you get well, with the BB so others might see that there is hope for them as well.
Namaste`
Walt

Danielle, Starting in my thirties, I also had that choking feeling. Doctors called it globus (hystericus), but not to my face. I couldn't wear anything tight around my neck but odors didn't seem to trigger anything. Now I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease (your own body attacks your thyroid gland and destroys it). I think if I had known earlier about Walt's ideas about stress and leaky gut, I might have prevented this. This might not be your problem but I would start putting into practice the skilled relation techniques Walt suggests.

please the nomsg website, dont join if you dont want, just get the list of misleading names food companies use on labels to represent msg, I know many who get asthmatic from msg and thought they were avoiding it by foods labeled no msg! Well, it is allowed in these foods under other names like "Natural flavors" "spices" hydrolyzed protein and more. Get better by getting the list. It is even in ketchup, chelated vitamins, vitamins grown on yeast, selenium from yeast, carmel coloring, malt, ... Read Neurosurgeon Russell Blaylocks book about Excitotoxins. You're not alone.
