Joan LaCroix has created a wonderful design that may well become the national or world wide symbol for Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. The Earth wearing a gas mask with the words chemical sensitivity environmental awareness written around it. For those of you looking for something to create an awareness with on MCS Awareness Day, May 12h, this might be your answer. Check out her page at:

Dental Material for the Chemically Sensitive and Chemicals found in a test.

Posted by Melva Smith on February 05, 1998 at 22:20:19:

Hi Dr. Stoll:

I was talking with Victoria today (also chemically sensitive,) and she wanted me to ask you a couple of questions. She can't use nickel, palladium or gold in her mouth for dental work. Someone mentioned something called Concept-Conquest. We didn't know if these contained nickel. Any ideas????

Also, She had a test and it showed high amounts of 2 Methylpentane and N- Hexane in her body. She use to be a fragrance model and also was later exposed to a leaky roof and she was told it had chemically burned her. She is trying to pinpoint what she was exposed to that caused the build up, and wondered if you could shed some additional light on what items contained the above.

On the Calification, she said she takes close to 3 or 4 grams of Calcium a day. (see message below)

Thanks,

Melva

Dear Melva,

For the sensitivities, as you know, my best advice is a strict wellness program to do something about WHY she is so sensitive. For the already high levels of "stuff" a good Naturopath/Colon therapist would be a good way to detox.

Next, I would be sure to be seeing a dentist that had taken Hal Huggins, DDS, training before deciding what dental materials to use to replace any metals in my mouth.

Finally, that much calcium, without taking the balancing trace minerals at the same time, COULD contribute to calcifications where they are not wanted.

Dear Judy,

There is ample research suggesting that MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) is one of the major contributing factors for MS. Dental amalgams fall into that catagory. If I had MS, I would be on a strict wellness program (you have my book which details the protocols for that) AND I would be seeing a good Clinical Ecologist in consultation. Have you read Dr R.L. Swank's work yet?

The bee pollen CAN help with detox. however, your experiences say to me that you are not being successful with your wellness program. What is going on with that?

I've had thirteen amalgams replaced and am extremely sensitive to dental materials and work at detox constantly. 7 of my crowns are concept/conquest and I seem to be ok with them. I was also allergic to every other type of porcelain and gold too. There are alot of new materials out. One to consider is called TARGIS. I agree with Walt that she needs to work with a Huggins trained dentist. Has she done the blood test he offers to determine the materials she needs to use in her mouth. The only drawback with concept/conquest is it doesn't make real pretty teeth unfortunately. She can e-mail me at FERGYJ@aol.com. This is a battle I constantly face and have researched alot.

Dear J.,

Thanks for your comments. I need all the help I can get with dentistry. I have just learned enough to point people in the most helpful direction since I am not a dentist.

It is by people like you sharing what you have learned that others do not have to struggle, quite so hard as you have, to learn a better way.

MCS Rx

Posted by RON dorn on February 17, 1998 at 01:59:57:

I have recently become aware of new treatments for MCS. UltraClear

Metabolic Detox from Dr. Jeff Bland among them. It has been suggested

that I take "green" stuff like bluegreen algae also. My doc said Pro

Green from Allergy Research Associates. I am curious to know if anyone

else has had experience with these.~~~~~~~~~~~~

With EPD and NAET and all this other new stuff, a guy doesn't know where

to begin. I have found saunas to be very helpful. I've always stuck with

the basics like Vitamin C and other supplements, EFAs and Acidophylis.

Thanks for any info you might have.

Dear Ron,

The only thing I have found effective against MCS, in the long run, is increasing the distance between where you are & the edge of your cliff. All of the short run remedies are expensive, limit your exposure to life and have short term benefits at best. I am sure that you have experienced the truth of that already.

If you do not understand my first sentence, you can start by going to Modern Medical Interpretation of Stress. THEN, if that makes sense to you, you could take the next step by getting a copy of my book (link below).

If you still have questions, then, write again.

I totally agree with you! Sadly the only safe place for me is long way from any work place. I have only remained healthy by living in a tent for the past several years. Now, it has become nearly impossible to earn a living and live this way. I guess I am just running out of steam so to speak. I hit an iceberg a couple of months ago in the form of pesticide poisoning and I am having a difficult time bouncing back, thus the UltraClear and Pro Green stuff. I thought I was going to die! I STUMBLED ONTO CHERRY JUICE, OF ALL THINGS, THE OTHER DAY. WOW! Like a switch turning on. My head cleared. My swollen lip went down. The crack in my lip healed! What the hell's in Cherry juice?? Whatever it is, I'm thinking of repackaging it as Ron's Miracle Elixer!! Instead of 3 bucks I'll charge $10! ;-)

They'll be linin' up at the door for the stuff. Keep it a secret, I don't want anybody else stealing my idea!

I'm sorry to hear the medical board gotcha! I've had friends, M.D.s that have been threatened. It's a crazy damned world, that's all I know!!

Thanks,

Ron

I took Ultra Clear SUSTAIN for 2 weeks under the care of a naturopath for LGS. The first few days I was on it, my IBS cleared up, then WHAM! It was back with a vengeance. I also took aloe and l-glutamine for 3 months, to no avail. Didn't even get temporary relief from that. I have to agree that all that stuff is temporary and EXPENSIVE! If I added up all the $$ I've spent on meds and herbs, I'd get acutely sick all over again just from thinking about it. That's my 2 cents. Nancy

Nancy,

Your point is well taken. The thing of it is I've been REALLY ill. I thought I might die. I'm doing better now. However, I want to do whatever I can to get my liver back in shape. I figure for a hundred bucks, if the UltraClear Metabolic detox stuff could help in that regard, would be money well spent. EHC-D recommends it, as does a doc in Australia named Donohoe. In fact as I look around, lots of docs are recommending it. The Sustain is a different product for a different problem and I understand that it is also good for lower bowel probs. Of course everyone is differnt and a lot of this stuff is a shot in the dark. There is no PROVEN treatment for MCS. Just get the hell away from the chems! That's what I usually do. This time I was landmined by unseen pesticides and extra stress from a friend's death. I've been doing saunas and eating organic food and staying away from chems! It has helped a lot! Oddly enough Cherry juice REALLY helped!! I can't fathom why! Anyway thanks for the 2 bits. How is the LGS anyway?

Posted by Ron on February 18, 1998 at 20:49:58:

Wait a sec. When I got hit with pesticides recently, my symptoms were: Blurred vision, crap in my eyes, tremors, and lightening flashes in my field of vision. Abrupt mood swings are apparently common in MCS sufferers. I sure experienced this last Summer! And for no apparent reason! I didn't know the cause at the time. I do now! (an EI doc told me that.) Sudden inexplicable weakness in my arms and hands also. Very disconcerting! Poor concentration and disorientation as well. I thought I was just getting old and stupid at the same time. Another thing: I was, and still am, having trouble urinating in the morning.

Come to think of it, I'm a mess!

I'm no doc but I'm learning about what I've got!

Dear Ron,

Thanks for your note. Your story is becoming distressingly more common every day. How sick does a civilization have to get before being forced to wake up?

Your experience is a great example of the problems with the current concept of Clinical Ecology. In spite of the cherry juice, you will eventually have to move from your tent to a glass cage with them feeding you through a stainless steel straw (kidding, I hope). You have seen the trend in your own life of becoming more, and more, restricted haven't you?

The only thing I have seen work to reverse that trend is making wellness be a hobby for you for the rest of your life.
You might start with this link How To Be Healthy.

I would be interested if any other MCS people have an experience with cherry juice. This response is another good example of how different we all are.

I certainly would not want to discourage you from trying something that might help you. Please let me/the BB know what kind of response you get from the Ultra Clear. I have not totally ruled out the possibility of trying it again.

Best of luck to you!

detergent sensitivities

Posted by Jay Andre on February 23, 1998 at 18:39:24:

I have emphysema and am growing increasingly sensitive to all soaps tried. I am near bronchial distress most of the time from bathing or clothing. I am 68 years old and am on continious oxygen. I take theo-dur 800 mg daily and Albuterol and Atrovent in a nebulizer solution 4 to 5 times daily. I am desperate. My doctors don't know anything about chemical sensitivities. HELP

Hi...and help! Does anyone have a problem with POSITIVE ION SENSITIVITY? It is 2 a.m. where I live, the only time I can work at a computer. Negative ions are highest at night, allowing me to work briefly. I am a writer and editor, but have been unable to work because of extreme sensitivity to the positive ion output of my computer. My physician suggests it might be necessary for me to move to higher altitude where negative ions are stronger. Currently, I live at sea level. I have some degree of MCS, but the positive ion problem is severe. It causes debilitating dizziness and fatigue. If you have experienced this problem, please write back. Thanks and good luck! -- Susan

Dear Susan,

Reducing your "load" is the least effective way to deal with this. If that is all you do, your life space will continue to contract until you are living in a glass house being fed baked platypus through a stainless steel straw. At the top of a mountain, yet (grin). I am not disparaging what you have learned already or your doc's idea about the top of the mountain. HOWEVER, you will find that increasing your horsepower to carry the load you already have is SO much more effective.

Of course, combining both is even more effective. However, without including the increasing of your horsepower, this problem will continue to restrict your exposure to life just as you have experienced over the past number of years---------HAVEN'T YOU?!

I would first suggest you read a copy of my book (link below). THEN, if that makes sense to you and you want to get into the exact mechanisms of this in a much deeper way, read "Mind as Healer, Mind as Slayer" by Dr Pelletier (also referenced in my book).

THEN, if you still have questions, write again.

Dear Jay,

Call the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, Box #16106, Denver, CO 80216 for the closest certified Clinical Ecologist. This would be a good place to start. I do not have their phone. When you get it, I would appreciate your sharing it here on the BB so others (including me) will have it.

ALSO, the dedicated practice of wellness techniques ALWAYS helps alleviate what you are going through. It is not a cure but you will feel enough better to easily make it worth your while. Use this link to get started: How to be Healthy.
