Neurotoxicity

Posted by Ron on April 10, 1998 at 14:40:10:

Walt,

I just received the results of a Neurotoxicity Screening Survey, Clinical Report, and I have elevated scores on nearly every symptom category evaluated. As an Environmental Illness/MCS sufferer, it seems to me that as the brain controls every aspect of physical function, this could be the breakthrough that EI suffers are looking for. It would seem to account for all the weird symptoms that EI sufferers experience.

Your thoughts?

Warmest regards,

Ron

What is a neurotoxicity screening survey and how did you come about taking one? Sounds very interesting. I (among other things)became very sensitive to everything with tons of weird symptoms. Thanks

Dear Ron,

You are RIGHT! Neurotoxicity is the best documented effect of MCS AND so far as we can tell, the brain & nervous tissue is the first to show effects.

Unfortunately, the AMA has steadfastly clung to the party line that, since neurological factors are the first to show up, it must be all in the patient's head. Typical! If you don't know what is going on, blame the patient!

You could get in contact with all that information by contacting some of the lay organizations in the country that exist for just that purpose. Melva Smith edits one of them and is active on this BB. We have a link to her website on our links page. Also, you could contact CIIN (Chemical Injury Information Network) at Box #301, White Sulphur Springs, MT 59645.

Let us know what you learn. Until the world takes this more seriously, things will rapidly get much worse.

Walt

Chronic Illness, Chemical Sensitivity, and Releasing The Anger Associated With It.

Hey.

Those of you who visit this board most likely already know that relaxation is an important key to obtaining good health. It should come as no surprise that letting go of past grudges, like anger and other toxic thoughts, can be healing. After going through a rather trying ordeal with an employer and eventually losing my job, I have written how I have managed to handle the situation without going bonkers. Having a chronic Illness, any chronic illness isn't fun. It can be stressful and consume all that you have. However anger can consume the person. And that's what my new website is about. Don't get me wrong. I am far from perfect. It often takes some time, but often letting go of anger is a key step toward getting well. I hope you all enjoy it and that it lessens your burdens in some positive way.

Dear Melva,

What a powerful statement. I went to your website and felt the power in your words, your healing and the Holy Spirit. Thank you for posting your message of healing and for creating such a wonder homepage.

I admire you very much for your courage and your spirituality.

I am also having to let go of lots of negative thinking, anger, grudges and to learn to love myself and be at peace. It isn't an easy road, but I am growing.

What you said on your website is just what I needed to hear. Thanks!

I pray that you continue in your healing and your service to to others.

love and peace,
pamela

Pamela:

Hang in there. You can do it. Sometimes it takes a while to let go of old feelings and emotions that we tend to bottle up inside of us. It dosen't always happen overnight. I don't feel as tense and uptight as I use to when I kept a lot of anger and resentment inside. Accepting my situation the way it was instead of setting unrealistic goals took off a lot of stress. That dosen't mean not to set a goal. Goals can be great. Sometimes stress can be directed into a positive thing, like writing a book or journal, or even taking on a small project. For me, it was writing local area hospitals and asking them to accommodate the Chemically Sensitive. 7 have created some form of policy locally. This Fall will mark the two years that this goal has been underway. It took a lot of praying, and positive thinking/visualization to get through the tendar moments. Decisions often seemed to hang by a string. When in doubt, I prayed about it, and created a positive mental image in my mind of the hospitals already accommodating us. For me it was a peaceful thought. And, certainly more healthy than the toxic thoughts that only added to the total load of my illness.
Feel free to write anytime,
Melva

Could you tell me the symptoms of neurotoxity. I have been exposed to chemicals in my life, real dangerous ones when I worked at a small co. in silicon valley. We had drills, and were told some, it wouldn't matter, we'd be dead in seconds. Also multible sprayings of my brother's house where I live for a while for earwigs, which in that year I started to become ill with flu-like symptoms, which turned in to extreme joint pain, I'm now on a long-acting morphine the pain is so bad. They've called it lupus, CFS, FMS, and you name it, but I don't think anyone really knows. I have had some reactions to fast food where I became almost "drunk" couldn't walk. slurred speech, felt like I was and I don't even drind anymore (socially in college) and this happened about 6 times in the last year and a half with other neuro symptoms, and then I had this happen without fast food. I normally try to eat healthy, these are just quick meals to doctor visits to Phoenix (2 hours). So if you can help me, or give me any insight I would sure appreciate it, Thanks Liz

allergic to water?

Posted by Missy Thompson on April 28, 1998 at 11:23:33:

Please help.
For the past 8 years, my chest and back have been breaking out in hives whenever they get wet. In a pool, bath when I sweat, spray perfume etc..
Any moisture causes me to break out. I can't avoid getting wet so what can I do? I'm desperate for help.

Missy-
I too feel that i am allergic to water. I have been taking
seldane, then allegra, now claritin for years. After I finish taking my bath--it starts-- and the doctor tells me its because of my dry skin. I am like you--HELP! or is there a cure.

Missy, you may be allergic to chlorine. My husband is severely allergic to it. For years he had eczema, lost hair and itched badly. The worst episodes followed bathing, but sweating caused a milder reaction.
We bought shower filter units for removing chlorine, as well as chlorine filtration unit for the kitchen tap. And we started drinking spring water to avoid putting chlorine into our systems. It just reappears in perspiration.
My husband's skin not only cleared up, but his hair has grown back to a good extent and his asthma is clearing up. He used to have some of the worst breathing problems right after showers.
As for cologne, if you already have a skin sensitivity, sprays with chemical additives can aggravate it.
This is just one idea.
