Perimenopause

Dr. Stoll,
For the past 8 months, I've had almost daily nausea, waking in the morning with it, and indigestion with huge burps. It typically passes by late morning. When this first started, I skipped a cycle, and the midwife who treated me put me on the Pill, saying I was most likely starting perimenopause (I'm 45). The Pill has wreaked havoc with my migraines and I went off it 2.5 months ago, but have suffered almost daily headaches, and still the nausea. I'm confused about what to do....could the headaches/migraines be caused by the Pill or could it be from hormones out of balance. I have a appt. with my GP next week, and am wondering if I should ask that a hormone panel be done to see where I am at. I've had blood work done and an ultrasound and an MRI all come back negative. Could the nausea be caused by hormones? Any insight would be most appreciated. Thanks, Carolyn

Yes, have a hormone panel. Have them check your
thryoid too while they are at it. Yes, perimenopause can
include nausea. I had the same thing when I started
with it. Indigestion and nausea especially in the
morning which I never had before. I kept thinking I was
pregnant. I also had stomach bloating and a general
yucky feeling that would come and go for no reason.
Plus mild hot flashes, blood sugar problems, fatigue
etc. It was a major drag.

I no longer have any of these problems for well over a
year since I started following the wellness plan from
this website. A whole foods diet, absolutely no sugar or
refined starches, and meditation every day. I also
started taking vitamin E, Evening Primrose Oil,
b-complex, magnesium, and a really good probiotic. I
can't tell you what worked best. Maybe it's a
combination of everything, but I feel so much better!

Here is a link to another website about Early
Menopause. It is really great and lists all the possible
symptoms and what causes them, and what you can try
to alleviate the discomfort. You may not be having early
meno but the signs of perimeno are the same. There's
also a great bulletin board that is very active and if you
have questions, others will chime in with some sound
advice.

I can't say enough about how wellness has helped me
with peri though. I feel and look like a new person! It
really does so much more than medication and
synthetic hormones can offer.

Hope this is helpful.

Hi, Carolyn.

Listen to Elisa. Wellness has always been and remains to be by far the most effective approach to perimenopause or actual menopause!

Of course, this could be ANYTHING else. If you have not had a good checkup for a while, this would be a good time to have one done by a good complementary physician.

Let us know what you learn and how you do.

Suggestion for the migraine

The thing that has helped me most with migraine has been the herb butterbur. You take it as a preventative. I was getting migraine almost every other day, and now haven't had one for weeks. I'm so grateful!

Thanks, Sue.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone else's experience with this approach.
