I have been experiencing strange sensations on my skin and was
wondering if anyone on this board might know if I should have it
checked out. It happens randomly and on different parts of my
body (mostly arms or legs). It feels like there is heat being applied
for a few seconds or sometimes it feels like cold water is hitting my
skin. Isn't that strange? I also sometimes have super tender to the
touch areas on my arms. It will feel like the skin is just too sentitive
to touch for about two days in one spot then it will just vanish and
everything will seem fine.
Is this possibly nerve damage? I always worry about that because I
have been taking b-coimplex every day for years and I heard
somewhere that high amounts of B-6 over extended periods of
time can cause nerve damage. But the b vitamins help so much
with PMS I'd hate to stop taking them.
If anyone knows anything about these heat and liquid sensations
please let me know. Thank you!!!

Forgot to mention in my post that I also sometimes feel like one of
my eyelids will not open with the other. Like I go to open both eyes
as upon awakening and one opens up and the other feels
paralyzed. Then I concentrate hard and can open it. Once it is
open it functions perfectly normally, but there is that moment where
it feels paralyzed which is kind of scarey. This happens about once
a month I would say. Thought it might indicate some nerve
problem/neurological disorder also.

Hi Debbie,
How long have these sensations been happening?
Did it start shortly after or before you started the B complex?
Are you on any other meds for conditions such as acid reflux
diabetes or cholesterol lowering?
Were you camping in deer country before the symptoms began?
Lets see what your replies are... You may figure this out yourself.

Debbie,
TOTALLY related to stress-effect storage in the hypothalamus. B6 could only be a factor if you were taking more than 400 milligrams a day WITHOUT taking any of the rest of the B vitamins along with it.

No to all of your questions. I have been taking b vitamins for many
years and this sensation business started only in the last year or
so.
What were you thinking it might be?

Thanks Dr. Stoll for setting my mind at ease.
I have looked up information on this site about stored stress effect.
I have never even heard of such a thing, but it sounds very
plausible in my case. A lot of it rings true with me anyway.
Is it possible that menopausal changes could trigger these types of
symptoms if I already was headed toward that direction?

I know your concerns and fear...
I experience these symptoms and many others.. I have good days and bad days now..
My symptoms started much like yours did.. and are now way out of control. I wish I had admitted to my selt that poorly managed stress could be the problem and taken more active measures to manage and release stress properly, before it got so bad.
I am More than $50,000.00 dollars in medical debt now , and still no Medical Reason for my disabling symptoms.
Cut out the caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol, and artificial sweetners if you use any of these things..
Take up a hobby that is physical based.. go play ball, walk jog, hike ANYthing that gets you moving (don't overdo it).
And DO get help from a support group, private counselor, someone that you can talk to about anything and not have to worry about how they are going to react(NOT YOUR BEST FRIEND OR SPOUSE)....
I have a moan and groan partner... we call each other several times a week just to moan and groan.. we take turns....but we NEVER offer opinions or advice... we do guide each other to talk about what we would like to happen and if it is reasonable, and possible.. IF not, then we say "what difference could it make in 20 years?" If the answer is NOTHING, then it is never to be brought up again.. My Moan and groan partner is just that..... we only moan and groan to each other and never discuss it with anyone else....we never sit in judgement on each others concerns nor degrade,,or belittle,or call
each other stupid for our feelings....
We have been able to see patterns develope in each other and now see the warning signs and are able to give each other a "heads up" if we see the other headed down the same dead end we have been at before......
you get "ME time" and your moan and groan partner gets "ME time. and dont Mix times..
she has her "sessions" If I Need to spout off then we Must conclude the call and I call back, to be fair and not to take over the conversation and to wrap it around my self.
I Hope something in this post is of assistance.
My best thoughts for you.
Penny

Hi Debbie,
I was thinking a med like Nexium or prilosec could cause trouble.... but now I think that is less likely.
How is your thyroid function? also....
It would be wise to be tested for Lyme disese especially if you live in deer country.

Are you having hot flashes? Have you seen a gynecologist who specializes in menopause? I wonder if that could be it. How long have you had these sensations?

This has been going on periodically for about a year. I do not have
hot flashes but I feel strange things happening that seem related to
my cycles. My FSH is still low though and I have regular cycles so
the doctor is not exploring hardcore menopause. I am in my early
40's though so it is not outside the realm of possible right?

Thanks, Debbie.
15% of women have gone through the menopause by the age of 30! SURELY your bodymind is a better indicator of when it is going through menopause than any test yet devised.
As a changer of bodymind function there is little to challenge menopause. If you have studied the home page about stress you know that any change in physiologic status will greatly reduce that individual's tolerance to the stresses of daily life.
Hope this helps.
