Folks my wife is having following issues

She is waken up through the night ( not every night ) with chest pain
It happens "sometimes" through the day also
Pain is in the middle of her chest

She made an appt with her doctor who got her an echo and also stress test

The stress test was all normal and she is waiting for her results on the echo this week

She was awake for another 2 hrs last night with it
Any idea what it could be? Im hoping its not heart related

She is 39

John, another possibility is costochondritis. Many people feel it is their heart because the pain can be centered in the sternum. It's an inflammation of rib muscles and can also affect the diaphragm which feels like shortness of breath. Usually women suffer from this. You can check it out in the archives using the search line above.

she might want to keep a food/beverage/supplements/meds diary and note the times the problem happens, since it doesn't happen every night and does happen sometimes during the day.
She may have some problem foods or beverages-soda,wheat, dairy, other consumables, or a combination of foods. A diary of this nature can help identify a connection.

For example- I've cooked onions and stirred them into a can of vegetarian refried beans for 30 years. I ate lots of them without problems for years. One night I ate them and got severe chest pains. I wondered if it was heart related, but suspected it might be gas.It felt like it was throughout my rib cage. Drinking a bit of baking soda in water took the edge off the pain, but it was still very bad. It passed after a few hours where I could only sit up and moan. I was scared to eat that food again for a year. Eventually I tried a bit again-no problem-perhaps it reacted badly that time with something undigested from earlier in the day. That's what a food/beverage diary may help you figure out.

John,

Listen to James and AT. This is costochondritis until proven otherwise. See the archives.

Let us know what you learn.

my husband has had Costo for years - it comes and goes.......he probably 'braces' a lot because he knows it causes him great pain!
He had By-pass surgery almost 20 yrs. ago,,,,so we believe it is a result of that.........
Before we knew what it was, he went to ER - there doctors said they had seen many cases of this, especially in younger people....
as they described it,,,Inflammation of the chest wall cavity.........
Was your wife in any car accident??
My hubby gets some relief from a hot water bottle!

good luck!!!

Of course, Towser!

Premenopause is an additional significant stressor that frequently pushes the individual over their cliff in many organ systems. SO, in a simplistic way, premenopause can be considerec a "cause". However, this does not excuse not looking at the many long standing causes that a knowledgeable person actually CAN do something about. Little can be done about premenopause except delaying it with the 3LS--which, by the way, would significantly reverse many of the underlying problems that brought the individual "closer to the edge of their cliff.

Hope that this is making sense to you.

Walt
