I am debating having my 8 large amalgams removed. My hair analysis, done by Great Smokies, did NOT show above normal levels of mercury.
Does that mean I don't have to worry about the mercury in the fillings????
I have assorted health problems which I am working on but am willing to go for the amalgam removal if it would help.
thanks

Hi Tiny - If you DO NOT have a metal taste in your mouth, especially first thing in the morning, I would not have the fillings removed. You would experience more of a toxicity while they were being removed, not to mention the toxicity of the novacaine numbing shots. * Rick *

Great Smokies does a blood analysis for minerals that also includes mercury. To me that would be a more accurate assement of mercury in body then hair. Just my opinion.

I also had no measurable mercury in my hair analysis, despite having a TON of mercury in my mouth. (Too many to count, as well as having molars 90+% amalgam).
According to my doc, that can just mean that the mercury is "locked" into other areas of the body, or the mercury is leaving through one of the other detox paths (stool, urine, sweat etc).
The best test is the DMPS mercury challenge test, but is controversial for people that still have amalgam fillings since the test itself can draw mercury from the fillings. My doc didn't think it would be a problem ,but I passed on the test anyway (plus it's expensive ~ $300+).

Hi, Tiny.
Listen to Roy, Sarah and Rick (Except I do not agree that a "metallic taste" is the sine qua non of the diagnosis for mercury problems.)
I would also suggest an EDTA, chelation challenge test with a 24 hour urine immediately following as the most accurate determination of mercury body burden.
Let us know what you learn.
