I asked my dentist about amalgam fillings (a risky thing to do to a person who is putting sharp objects into your mouth). He gave me the usual - "you get as much mercury from eating a can of tuna per week as you do from your fillings".

It is information like this that will finally help the public break away from the addiction of letting "professionals" do our thinking for us. If only this were a "scientific debate" amalgams would have been outlawed nearly 100 years ago.
Yes! About 100 years ago a branch of the ADA tried to get peopel to listen to the already conclusive data available at that time about the chronic toxicity of amalgams. However, the political/economic pressures finally delicensed those dentists who wouldn't shut up and squelched the rest.
ANYONE who says something as stupid as the tunafish statement is too intentionally ignorant to be practicing. There are plenty of scholarly books out documenting the world wide research about this. A good one is "The Mercury in Your Mouth" by Lydia Bronte` , PhD.
For one thing, the tuna only happens when you happen to eat some. The amalgams are 24 hours a day forever.

Can you believe that 100 years ago a professional could have their license revoke for acting on sound medical principles. Couldn't happen now - could it? And we think the medical community has made progress.
