Magnesium IV series

Posted by Happygal on May 31, 2002 at 12:52:07:

Hi Walt,

Thought you might be interested in knowing about how the magnesium IV series is looking.

The chelation people in Boulder insist on my establishing a relationship with their doc, then blood tests, so the whole thing with them would cost about $800.

Then I called the local hospital to see if they could do it, they told me the same thing and wanted at least $600.

So I went back to the holistic MD I saw years ago, he's willing to do it and has done it before. He likes to use "meyer's cocktails" which also have B complex, Vit C and Calcium to help absorb the Mg. But he insists on blood tests before doing them -- he wants kidney function, electrolytes, CA and serum Mg tests (even though he knows this last one may not help, he wants to see it anyway). The IVs are about $60 each so even though I don't need an office visit with him, it'll still be around $500 for the whole shebang. Fortunately, he moved to a town about an hour's drive away, and it's okay with him for me to do it locally in my town under his supervision, so at least I will have the opportunity to shop around some more for the lowest prices for these things.

Health care is for the rich (SIGH).

Well, at least the rebounder only cost $25. That was reasonable!

If anyone knows any other way to get this done, I'd love to hear about it!

An afterthought.

A friend of mine said to try liquid magnesium orally. Do you think this might work?

Thanks, Happygal

Hi, Happygal.

What a racket!

IV magnesium is among the safest things possible. The best way to do this is to just do it and see if it helps the person's symptoms. All this examination and lab work (most docs charge about 100% markup on every lab test over what it costs them from the lab) is just to make money. ABSOLUTELY unnecessary for the IV magnesium!

I am very familiar with Meyers Cocktail and it has nothing to DO with what you are trying to do: get the intracellular magnesium up to where you can absorb it orally. The other things in the cocktail have NOTHING to do with the "absorbtion" of the magnesium. IV, it is already absorbed. Besides, the Meyer's Cocktail does not have nearly enough elemental magnesium in it to do much for what you are trying to do.

I am really embarrassed for my profession!

Happygal,

It is the shape of the molecule and not it's form (tablet or liquid) that makes it easy or hard to absorb.

Thanks, Walt,

I'll keep trying. So to accomplish this task of Magnesium IVs, I get to practice being incredibly creative, resourceful, and skilled at communication! It will keep me on my toes!
