read your magnesium posts and think that may be one of my problems...magnesium...not your posts.....sure lgs is main problem...in march I had severe back muscle pain...knots..spasms...heart palpitations and insomnia....suffered for 2 weeks before going to er...heart checked out fine but was dehydrated...I work out 35 miles on exercise bike 3-4x week plus sauna 125 degrees for 20 mins..also hi protein diet....regular dr gave me potassium...ordered magnesium rbc(which was a little high) and told me to stop magnesium.. weeks went by with me taking sleeping or muscle relaxant every night to sleep...1st it was by back but then it seem like my muscles were constantly twitching...saw neurologist who basicaly thought it was my nerves...gave me diazapam...helps slow twitches but does not resolve them...family dr wants to put me on lexapro..says I am depressed...tell him if I did not twitch i would not be depressed....in the past he has treated for candida...and i have done just fine...before this occured I let diet get out of hand...and ran out of oregeno(think that kept yeast in control)....should I try 2 gm oral magnesium or should I get dr to give iv magnesium??.....tried taking 2 gms of magnesium from apsartate for 2 days without getting diarrhea....if there is no diarrhea does that indicate magnesium deficiency??....ordered your whole food diet book...would you try oral form...or go for iv/im form...and then how long do you think it would take to remove the twitches & cure the insomnia>>> thanks in advance

Hi, 41 yo.
It sounds like you need effective SR the most.
IF you need the magnesium, one 2 gram IV push will resolve your symptoms for about a day (therapeutic trial). Intracellular magnesium levels are still poorly established since there are many genetically susceptible people that need as much as 100 times as much magnesium as the average person and those "outliers" are still being ignored.
hope this helps.

thank you for your response.....ordered book so I can learn SR.....but feel the reason I stressed out is because magnesium was depleted by sweat, hi protein, diarrhea(used wrong form in citrate)and also calcium supplements...and 3 liters of h20 daily....also thought intracellular magnesium test was only accurate test of magnesium...not rbc...when I take mag aspartate...twitching minimizes but does not completely abate....hope you enjoyed your vacation....I will see if I can get a dr to test with 2gm of mag sulfate injection...would im give same results...if injection gives me total stop of twitching ...how many more shots would I need??thanks again...

Thanks, 41.
In order of your questions: 1. An RBC magnesium IS an intracellular test (inside the RBC). 2. IM, yes, but results are delayed for a few hours. 3. Three times a week for 2 weeks hand-running.
However this only sets you up to absorb the oral better and you will still have to find what to do for maintenance orally.
Let us know what you learn.

still waiting on your book....I think I will have hard sell to get dr to give me im/iv magnesium (since he said to stop taking it when rbc magnesium was slighlty over normal)....I am not sure I would have guts to take 2gm magnesium by this route....my blood pressure is 121/78 and pulse is 66....would be afraid magnesium could harm me by parental route...since i read your home state is ohio....I was wondering if you knew any drs in OHIO that I could have test me with magnesium??....seems that since I have increased oral magnesium and changed to aspartate from citrate form that twitches are minimizing...maybe oral form along with sr will be enough to get away from twitching....thanks again for all your info...ps can not wait for your book to arrive

Thanks, 41.
You are fortunate to have, in Ohio, one of the foremost practitioners of holistic medicine: Terry Chappell, MD in Bluffton.
A very good one is in Centerville too: Heather Morgan, MD.
Which ever one you eventually see, please give them a good big hug from me, will you?
Let us know what you learn.
