Sugar in my magnesium Glycinate???

Posted by jen [5481.10] on August 26, 2006 at 10:16:44:

Is Magnesium Glycinate a form of sugar? My pills taste sweet when I chew them. Other ingredients in my mg pill are Cellulose, Stearic Acid and Magnesium Stearate. My problem is I have a brain allergy to sugar that causes extreme panic and agoraphobia. When I stay off the sugar I am fully functional. I am afraid that this sweetness may cause me to have an attack down the road. Can you tell me if this is sugar? Would Mg Aspartate or Orotate be a better alternative for me?

Hi Dr Stoll,

Just want to let you know I am a big fan of your work. I have been a bit shy about posting before but here goes my first one. My problem is I have had food allergis for the better part of 12 years. My symptoms are fatigue and mild fever after eating as well as slightly swollen lymph nodes around my neck. Ive developed a small skin rash in the form of progressive purpuric dermatitis on my left calf that has been around for over a year. Also, circulation is horrible as my left foot falls asleep often even when elevated. In addition, I get light-headedness after getting up. Im a bit worred since the symptoms are getting worse and that adds to my stress. I just started practicing your Skilled Relaxation Method outlined in your book which is amazing. All of this started over 14 years ago when I went on a diet of primarily 8000 calories a day of food intake(mainly milk, protein shakes, meat, and pasta). I was bodybuilding at the time, and the increase food consumption lead to acne which prompted antibiotic use. Coupled with the milk I was drinking as well as the sugar this was the beginning of a long period of feeling ill, (especially after eating a meal). I am now a vegetarian. I have cut out sugar and all the candida feeding foods from my regime. Lost over 70 pounds of muscle but still seem weak and hot after eating. My question to you is how do i know what foods to eat versus not to eat since the right foods cause me to lose weight and have diarrhea. Please advise.

Hi Jeff. You should post this as a new post, not under someone else's. Otherwise it looks like a response to Jen's post and people may miss it.

Hi, Jen.

Unfortunately, just the "memory" of the sweet taste CAN trigger the sugar response. Self hypnosis can help you with that. What you are describing will have no physiologic sugar effect other than that.

The same effect has been described with artificial sweeteners and the remembered sugar response.

Thanks, Jeff.

You are on the right track with your starting the SR since the most important single thing is reversing the leakiness of the LGS. To determine the short term thing of identifying what foods may be contributing, you will have 4to go to the allergy archives and also learn the difference between intracellular hypersensitivities and serum allergies.

Let us know what you learn.

If you can keep your hands off of the purpuric lesion of your calf (and not touch it for 6 months) it will go away!
