I have read the archives, and it said it wouldn't hurt to try magnesium orally first, so that's what i'm going to do i've been doing SR twice a day for about a month and a half now, I would like to know the dosage of the magnesium glycinate i'm taking should be?
also Dr. Stoll I was wondering if chelated magnesium glycinate is better than just regular magnesium and which of the magnesiums has the most elemental mag if you know?
and if glycinate is absorbed well orally compared to the others?
I've been trying to find one that says elemental on the label like you have said but I can't find any, any brand suggestions I would appreciate too, thanks for your answers.

I believe Natural Calm is elemental magnesium:

that product is magnesium citrate which isn't very well absorbed I thought?

Hi Mike,
A couple of years ago I checked with a couple of companies to see how much elemental magnesium was in their capsules or tablets. I seem to recall that both were in the 100-125 mg range per tab/cap. This was for 400mg-tablet/capsules (400 mg of the magnesium compound, like mag glycinate, so about 100 mg of that was just magnesium). I don't remember now which brands I called about (Tyler mag glycinate was probably one of them), but I think they would all be similar.
Hope that helps,
Nutmeg

Maybe they changed it...I thought I recalled seeing on there elemental magnesium before..Oh well. Magnesium glycinate is fine to. I've used both and both work for me. Your body will tell you what works for you.

Thanks, Mike.
Magnesium cannot be absorbed unless it is chelated with SOMETHING! In my opinion the glycinate is probably the best chelate but orotate and aspartate are also very good.
I would have to get out my "Periodic Table" to calculate the elemental magnesium in one molecule of the magnesium glycinate. I am not really healthy enough to do that any more. It all depends upon the formula and the atomic weight of each atom in the molecule. If you do not want to do it, any ethical pharmacist or health food proprietor could do it for you.

i appreciate the answers Dr. Stoll, do you have any suggestions on how many 200mg of glycinate magnesium I should be taking a day? I have read in the archives it works well with b-complex, which i will also take at the same time, I was just wondering if it is also okay to take my ester c, and fish oil at the same time as those also? thanks again

Mike,
I would have to do the calculations with the formula and the atomic weights. I have already said how much elemental magnesium I would use as a therapeutic trial.
Please wo not ask me to do the calculations for you.

Sorry if i misread, but I didn't see where you said what would be good for a theraputic trial, could you please refresh my memory, I looked in the archives also, thanks a lot!

Mike,
Two grams of elemental magnesium twice a day for a few weeks to see if there are results.

Yikes! That would be about 20 pills a day. Don't start with this amount, Mike, or you might not be able to leave the house! When you first start magnesium supplements, it's a good idea to just take small amounts, like 1-2 tablets a day and adjust upward as you see how you tolerate it. If you are not absorbing very well, or until your body gets used to it, magnesium can cause loose stools or diarrhea.
Wishing you the best,
Nutmeg

Nutmeg,
Only if the magnesium is not being absorbed.

Dont use Magnesium Aspartate. Free form aspartic acid is a neurotoxin (thats one reason to avoid aspartame). If Aspartic acid is in dipeptide or tripeptide formation (bonded with one or two other aminos) its fine. But dont use it if it is in its free form.
Magnesium oil can be used to correct a magnesium deficiency MUCH faster than oral tabs or powders. Magnesium oil is magnesium chloride and it is transdermal. You just apply it to your skin.

Kevin, my magnesium asporotate by Solaray says it contains none of the yeast and soy commonly found in full range amino acid chelates. So, do I assume this is a full range amino acid chelate?
And where do you get magnesium oil?
