My holistic MD told me about this today and suggested I look into the book Transdermal Magnesium by Mark Sircus and the mag chloride oil products for baths and topical application.
I thought I remembered a little bit of discussion about magnesium oil and epsom salts vs magnesium chloride baths on the board at some time in the past. I found this thread that mentioned it.

I'm going to get some soon and try it. Just wondered if anyone had any experience or advice to share, or recommendations on what product to get. I'm feeling better because of some other things I'm doing, but not yet able to get down into the bathtub due to muscle pain and weakness, and back and hip pain, so I could do foot baths or topical spray to start.
The question was raised on whether the magnesium oil could raise intracellular levels. From the testimonials I read, and what my doctor said, it does sound like it helps with symptoms anyway. Not sure how it could do that if it didn't get into the cells. At some point I will do the WBC mineral panel to see if my magnesium level comes up.
Thanks for any info,
Nutmeg

Hi Nutmeg,
I've used Mg Oil before. I guess it helps some but I don't know.
I just had a hair mineral test with Dr. Larry Wilson again. I had the first test with him 2 years ago or so. They have me on Paramin, Limcomin, and GB-3. Paramin is a Cal/Mg formula with Vitamin D and Limcomin is a Zinc/Copper formula. GB-3 is a digestive aid with ox bile. I think this is the best way to go about restoring minerals.
Mg oil baths may be good. Some people also soak their feet in Mg Oil. I bought the stuff from this site. They have the best prices I've seen on this, and the best selection. They are nice people to deal with.
I hope this helps. I don't believe that megadosing a single mineral is the right way to go about restoring a mineral deficiency, since they are all co-related.

Nutmeg,
Therapeutic transdermal therapy is currently in it's infancy as a procedure. Let us know your experience with this.

Thanks, Dr. Stoll. I'm very keen to try it and will share my experiences. Dr. Shealy has a lot of information on his website, so I take that as a sign that there is definitely something to the therapy. I like that it comes in different forms for different applications and doesn't have to be ingested to be effective. Even veterinary medicine is realizing that transdermal dosing is effective...many veterinary drugs (human drugs in very small doses) are being compounded into transdermal creams for application to the ears.
I don't tolerate oral magnesium very well, even glycinate and asporotate, so I probably don't take enough every day. My experience with mineral IVs was very unpleasant, so I'm not going to do that again. I have the best luck, right now, with mag phos homeopathic tissue salts, but my hair analysis and WBC tests still show deficiencies.
Thanks!

Thanks, Lurch! I appreciate the link and you sharing your experience. I will delve into this later when I have more time. Important point about megadosing with a single mineral--it's important to have some testing done to know what your starting point is, and I definitely agree with you about taking a holistic approach to supplementing minerals.
My doctor does WBC analysis and hair analysis from Doctor's Data, so I know where I stand on all minerals--deficient in almost everything--HA! Thanks for the reminder about digestive aids. I think I will be more diligent about taking my digestive enzymes because I'm sure that would help. I take a lot of minerals.
I know Dr. Wilson has a different approach than others with his hair analysis, and I'm glad it's working for you. It's interesting that they have you on a copper and zinc mineral supplement. I thought they were antagonistic, but maybe their formula takes that into account somehow.
I'll let you know what I end up with and how it works.
Thanks again,
Nutmeg

Hi,
I used to take lots of minerals too, and I think I was more or less shooting in the dark with them. Then I had a series of IV Vitamin C infusions that seemed to screw up my copper levels and then I seemed to need a lot more copper but I couldn't absorb it well. Dr. Wilson thinks it may be bio unavailable copper.
PS- The Limcomin is also high in Manganese. I've only been on these minerals for a few days but I think in the long run they will help and I won't have to shoot in the dark any more. :-) It may take me 6 months or a year to see the results. It's an expense but I believe it's a necessary expense. These guys seem to really know their beans in minerals.

Thanks, Nutmeg.
I am looking forward to learning about your experiences.
You know, the gospel when I went to medical school, was that the skin was a perfect barrier to absorbing ANYTHING from the environment. Now the gospel is that EVERYTHING is absorbed through the skin from the environment. Typical medical omniscience. I wonder what will be "known" to be true 100 years from now?

Hi Walt,
That "omniscience" is not limited to the medical system.
Politicians have also voted for things before they voted against them.
Too bad that Doctors are not also elected.
We would vote you in for sure. ;>)

I read Doctor's Sircus's book, and then I actually emailed him. I have restless leg syndrom, and have had it for seven years now. Have tried everything under the sun. That being said, it also means that I cannot sleep very well, so that is another problem. Anyway, Doctor Sircus emailed me back and told me that he is endorsing two new transdermal magnesium products. One is called Ocean Minerals (obviously from the ocean),and the other is called Ancient Minerals from beneath the earth (from Europe somewhere). I called the people that are going to be distributing it for the US, and pre-ordered some, as it will be ready to ship on Tuesday. I will let everyone know how it works out. I am excited, as Doctor Sircus says that I will be able to sleep and get rid of my restless leg problem. Oh yeah, the distributors are a company called magnetic clay.

Hi Darcey,
Thanks so much for the information. I sure hope those products work for you and you get some relief. I've not read about those products, specifically, but I've visited the magneticclay.com website to look into their clay detox baths, which someone in the local Lyme Disease support group told me about. Looks like a good company/stuff.
Just yesterday I received the bottle of magnesium oil I ordered from Global Light. I'm anxious to try it to see if it helps my muscle pain, occasional muscle cramps, and non-restful sleep. Will probably try a foot soak tonight before bed.
Good luck to us both!
